A Pileated Woodpecker is a very large, striking, forest bird with red crest, white and black plumage that sounds really loud when hammering on a tree in the forest These two juvenile Pileated Woodpeckers could see and hear me, but were more interested in the foraging for food in the cracks of the bark on the trees.

@DebOppermann beautiful! We have red-bellied woodpeckers here, and one in particular visits our backyard a couple of times a day, taking seeds from the bird feeder that hangs from a pine tree then jumping over to the pine tree to stuff the seeds into the crevices in the bark. Back and forth.
