The Library Biltmore Estate Asheville North Carolina This is the Library in the Biltmore Estate in Asheville, North Carolina, one of the most awe-inspiring rooms in the mansion. A testament to George Washington Vanderbilt II’s love for literature, this grand space houses over 10,000 books from his personal collection, many of which date back to the 15th century. The two-story library is framed by richly carved wood paneling and features an ornate wrought-iron balcony, accessible by a hidden spiral staircase. The ceiling mural, painted by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, was originally from a Venetian palace and depicts an allegorical scene of the arts and sciences, adding to the room's European elegance. A massive fireplace, intricate gilded lamps, plush red velvet draperies, and elegant furniture enhance the room’s opulence, making it a warm and inviting space for reading and conversation. I've wanted this library ever since I first saw it as a kid on a field trip to the Biltmore House. I have enough books to fill it now, but they're mostly in piles on the floor. If I close my eyes and daydream about what I'd like to have some day, it's this library.
