An observation from May 2020. This Javan Munia (Lonchura leucogastroides) was spotted near the house. It was looking for nesting material, judging from its efforts to pull loose this hanging vine.

The Javan Munia is an uncommon introduced bird species.

The queen of an Asian Weaver Ant (Oecophylla smaragdina) spotted on the fence of the dam leading to Coney Island, Singapore, on 15 Dec 2020.

Weaver ants make nests in trees by weaving together leaves using silk from their larvae. Watching them make a nest is interesting, as long as you are careful not to get attacked by the ants.

Skyscraper and Evening
Midtown Manhattan, New York City
December 14th, 2020

The 30 Hudson Yards skyscraper two evenings ago, with the sky lit pink and orange by the setting sun and the clouds blowing by the whole area, behind, in front of, around it and near our own windows.

Looking closely you can see two people on the observation decks of the building. A few more came out later, but naturally they’re obscured in the more dramatically cloudy photos.
