Fair to say this little G9II is performing even better than I expected. Have finally learned to just trust the AF system and it's doing really really nicely.

I'm sailing South to Macquarie Island with Heritage Expeditions and enjoying a little pampering in between the wildlife and wild waves.

We had some lovely sunshine the first night sailing out of Bluff. Weather has been very "oceanic" since then however :)

Our vessel is the Heritage Adventurer, a Finnish built expedition ship with a heavy emphasis on comfort. Pretty good for spotting albatross too!

Back in the land of the internet today. Feels kinda weird.

We got lucky down in the Auckland Islands on the second visit. Some amazing calm water and clear skies.

Fifteen years ago I got a chance to sail down to Macquarie Island, the last stop before you reach the Antarctic Confluence and the ice of East Antarctica.

Last week I got a chance to go back, and the Royal Penguins did not dissapoint. They are amazing little critters, full of personality and curiosity.

Watching the penguin pairs coming ashore is really something else. Moments of tenderness that are so expressive.

These images taken on the Lumix G9II by the way. Telephoto shots with the 200mm F2.8, and wide shots with the 10-25mm F1.7.

Wrapping up my editing for the Macquarie Island trip. Was taking roughly 7,000 frames a day with the burst mode on. That's a lot of files to delete.

Also, penguins can fly!

Royal Penguin on the beach at Macquarie Island. Amazing little creatures, each and every one of them full of personality and bravado.

One of my companions from the trip to Macquarie Island captured a rare Yellow Capped Dordler while on the beach at Sandy Bay.

@ewen I had no idea they could do that, thank you

@CaraBruar

It's one of the most marvellous sights on the planet :)

@ewen nice portrait!
I wonder what they are thinking ...

@deborahh

There's an intense curiosity with these guys. They're looking for friends, testing the boundaries, wondering what we are.

It's quite marvellous to be in their company!

@ewen very serious looking beak there.

@ewen

Wonder photos! That sort of un-kept crest is marvelous. Thank you for sharing these.
