Surprise guests this morning :) Holy moly these lads are loud.

I just love their squeeky calls. The screeching is a little intense, but then they slip into quiet talk and it's very charming.

For those who are interested, these were taken on a LUMIX S9 with the 18mm F1.8 lens. Shot at F2, and I've lifted the shadow detail from the original exposure. As is my usual style.

Just lucky with the light this morning. Just one of those moments where the magic happens and all you gotta do is hit the shutter.

Here's a photo of his girlfriend too.

The floof balls popped up again today. But this time super quiet, just sneaking onto the balcony and softly chirping out hello. They left just before the sun popped out.

I already had my airport bag packed with cameras right next to the arm chair, so had a few cameras to choose from this morning.

@ewen
Our local shopping mall used to have a Rainforest Cafe, which was a theme park of a restaurant, and they had Macaws in the mall hallway outside their restaurant. The calls and screeches would reverberate from the hard surfaces (tile, etc.) for many yards.

@wilpercy

Still can't believe how the light was bouncing around :)

@ewen they… it’s… just impossible not to see them as Boris Johnson

@kult_epigenetic

Them's be fightin words!

Cockatoos may will be rouges, but they thoughtful and make a lot of sense when you listen to them. Cannot say the same for Boris.

@ewen *...until they take your balcony apart >.< but yes, yes they are

@ewen What gets me is the contrast with King Parrots - the most I've ever heard them say is a quiet, bell-like peeping sort of noise.

@ewen this is absolutely magnificent Ewen! It’s beautifully executed. 🤍💛

@ianlewis

Really brings out the subtle hues of yellow doesn't it. Such a dynamic bird, it's imperative to get a little crest or wing reveal in a shot :)

He looks as though he's posing for his studio shoot:)

@ewen A restaurant I worked at for several years had a cockatoo. When Lemon started screaming it was crazy loud. He was being neglected by the owner so a couple of us thought we could birdnap him to take to a rescue place. His screeching was insane so we had to abandon that stupid plan. When the owner died a few months later Lemon was given to a bird rescue and later into a loving home.

@BLTpizza

Nobody knows what loud is until they've had a cockatoo screech in your face at 6 in the morning!

This mob are wild, not pets.They're city birds that head north in the winter. Summer time they rumble back into the city and raid the plant boxes on balconies, chomping through anything green.

They're tolerant of humans. I sometimes see them in the park tearing up the flowers. We're lucky to have these moments with nature.

@MaierAmsden

They fling up the crest when they land, it's a lovely moment!
