Was marveling at this butterfly that looked just like a leaf. And then realised it really was just a leaf.
This fella gave us a good session, and waited patiently for us to take turns. Love the tiny little flourishes of colour that you just don't see until poking a macro lens into his orbit.
These little guys are real favourites of mine. Was very excited to see them this morning, and for the rest of the morning we spotted them everywhere. The females have orange where the males have blue.
Scientific name for butterflies is "scaly wing". This photo shows you why. Except in America of course where they have been renamed "Flappy Jitters" and made illegal under threat of deportation.
Ooooops, stray post that was meant to be in this thread.
Sorry I've been sharing a few toots about the dire state of the world. I try to focus on the butterflies and how ridiculously lucky I am to have this life. But I also have to acknowledge that nearly everything else outside *my* world is pretty screwed up right now.
Little acts of kindness, such as sharing a photo, seem inadequate at a time like this. But it's all I have.
Anyway, here's a bulbul.
@ewen Even in the midst of global turmoil, it's important to not lose sight of the little joys that make life worth living.
I said hello to a squirrel this morning.
@ewen A member of the Admirals and Allies butterflies (subfamily Limenitidinae), I believe. I can't narrow the ID much, as this group has lots of members that often resemble each other closely.
