(this is like. a commonly stated thing that's definitely not exactly true IMHO, because you get a completely different picture due to depth compression/effects if you're closer or further away from subject. But some people are like 'u don't need a zoom lens because you can always sneaker zoom')

@gdkar (or unless being physically closer to your subject changes the effective proportions of objects in front of and behind it in the scene and makes it not the shot you wanted)

I don't know if I'm joking or not tbh
but I did do this for a couple timelapse/fake long exposure shots last week, and it did work in that it was more steady and more level than it would have been if I'd just set it on the rock I was up on
