"Car makers told to ditch distracting touchscreens: Safety body will penalize models that don't have simple button controls"
Glad this nonsense stops, haptic feedback for the win.
@fribbledom Isn't haptic more a matter of imitating the feel of the button, on a more general display surface?
I mean yeah... if your touchscreen feels like a proper button, sure, go for it.
@fribbledom @midgephoto @patterfloof issue is still you have to look to see what the button is on the screen, regardless of feel. The buttons around my touchscreen always do the same job, so you can locate them by feel
@fribbledom
Apple started that with the iPhone, and on my phone it is an aid to typing etc.
The crucial problem for driving and various ideally eyes-off activities is that the (thing that feels a bit like a pressed button) is sometimes there, but sometimes is a different button.
You need to be able to feel the outlines of the button, so that you can push it without looking, not just get haptic feedback when you press.
@midgephoto @fribbledom tactile location and haptic feedback FTW!
