First experiments with mucrophotography. These are trichomes from a leaf of Arabis hirsuta with raindrops

These were obtained by reverse-mounting a Canon FD 24mm 1:2.8 to a Canon FD 200mm 1:4, adapted to a Fujifilm xt-100 body

(i dont know much about optics, i got this setup while messing around)

Getting on top of the mountain, goal achieved and all

But these clouds are really insensitive to my need for self esteem

Per me si va ne la città dolente,
per me si va ne l’etterno dolore,
per me si va tra la perduta gente.

Giustizia mosse il mio alto fattore:
fecemi la divina podestate,
la somma sapienza e ’l primo amore.

Dinanzi a me non fuor cose create
se non etterne, e io etterno duro.
Lasciate ogne speranza, voi ch’intrate

After a full day of waling we reached Colonnata. The town was indeed pretty, the people warm-hearted and the food, finally, plentiful. But we were left speechless in knowing how well regarded the marble industry is among the residents. The constant drilling and explosions, the pollution due to stone cutting and transport, the hydrogeological damage are blatant and huge impacts on the quality of life in the province. Yet no criticism was directed at the extraction activity.

On our way to the mt Contrario ferrata we had to take refuge in the Bivacco Aroldi because of the weather. Shrouded in thick fog we could barely recognise the trail as we navigated the layered paths of the quarries excavated around the mountain pass.
There is a picture, taken at the inauguration of the shelter where you can see a mountaintop that is now reduced in half. You can find an old picture of the bivacco at shorturl.at/alrUZ if you want to compare it with new ones.

@overripeegg - still not good for a view of Jupiter here, but I did get a shot of the moon between clouds.

The contrast of the quarries and their surrounding is a false one though. The quarry still exists if we stop digging, the mountain will keep being eroded, albeit in longer ages, even if we leave it be. We like to think of what is human-made as opposed to what is natural, it is very convenient to think ecology in this simplified way.

But we are the ones that define the natural this way, and desiring to coexist with an opponent is a loser’s game.

This summer my brother and me hiked across the Apuan alps park for a total of a week. Just the two of us and a tent, for most of the hike we did not meet a soul. But the presence of humankind lingered throught, in the quarries where the famous Carrara marble is extracted. The disfigurment inflicted on the land starkly contrasted with the pristine wilderness we inhabited.

I am going to explore the impressions I left on me by the experience in the next posts

Hi Everyone! This is my first toot, hope that Mastodon will work out for me. I'm a newbie when it comes to photography but I'd like to use it to explore human-nature interactions, so that's the theme I'd like to follow with my posts.

That won't prevent me from posting/sharing random stuff of course, but I am excited to begin this experiment!
