I just came up with a nice process for taking pix of bees with the coolpix a1000
1. Set zoom to 105mm for sweet spot w/ longest reach and closest focal distance (I think)
2. Set focus to manual, set it to the closest distance, turn 2x focus point zoom on and focus peaking/outlining up to 3
3. Set aperture to like f/7.1 for depth, exposure compensation down a bit for better shutter speed...

4. Focus by rocking back and forth until the focus highlighting shows up on the bee edges, half press to preview composition, full press to snap
5. If they're further away, flip the screen halfway down and then back out to get it closer to u

But I think the 'give up on autofocus, just fix it at minimum and focus by moving yourself' is the maybe obvious but important thing
