My last 3-day <a href="https://mastodon.social/tags/Amtrak" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>Amtrak</span></a> Southwest Chief sleeper car journey in 2018: entire train smelled like a septic tank. It was very hot out but turning on the AC meant a strong, raw feces smell rushed in. The problem: a special sleeper room on the lower deck had a disturbed passenger in it and they smeared poop over all the walls and floor. And Amtrak kept the car in service and didn’t clean it up, rather, poured boxes of coffee grinds everywhere. Didn’t help. 😱🤷‍♂️</p>

Definitely Doc D<p>Something I love about rail travel (in the US) is that you see the backside of every town and city. The highway shows you the front they dress up for company. The railroad shows you the real place, history, neglect, weeds, and all. </p><p>I grew up in a railroad town, a place that exists because the railroad needed a stop there.
