Hi,

I need your inspirations. I practice overtone singing and found five years ago #ThePipe of Soma. A very good tool to get the voice in the #AnalogSynth world. After the full scale assault on #Ukraine I questioned about the attitude of Soma and got in contact to the European Division of Soma in Poland. So i found out, that the machines now are build in Europe, and that they give no money to the russian Division and that in Poland are working together people of Poland, Ukrainians and people who fled from russia. So I completed my setup by a #Lyra8.

Even the stuff is no more russian, the creator is. He fled 2014 from Donetsk not to Ukraine but to russia. So it is very difficult and I want to create clear conditions as far as possible. So I want to replace the #Lyra8, by a modular system and I hope, I can also displace the pipe. Basic requirement for modules are, that they are not build in russia (or by russians), in china, north korea, Iran, ...

My style is ambient sound, only very discreetly in the background some rhythmic elements. My requirements for a modular system are modulation of the two-part voice as input by settable reverb, delay, filters and resonators with adjustable decay times, creating a sound carpet on harmonics stimulated in the sound input. Also interesting would be the possibility to freeze some short sequences, also a nice effect of the pipe.

May be, you have also some ideas what I can integrate to the system. Some of my ideas right now are:
• Endless Processor of Blukač (Ukraine)
• StarLab by Strymon (USA)
• Nautilus by Qu-Bit Electronix (USA)
• Coral by OXI Instruments (Spain, Europe)
• Radiant by Dnipro Modular (Ukraine)
• Favourite Avocado Toast by Crazy Chicken Modular (Ukraine)
(unfortunately, i have to make a choice, my financial resources are limited)

As inputs, mixers:
• Matrix by Crazy Chicken Modular (Ukraine)
• Mixers by Happy Nerding (Ukraine) and others will be added as required

For rhythmic inputs I would like to integrate the DB-01 Bassline from Erica Synths (Latvia) I have already and can be connected to modular systems.

First of all I need the case, I wish one of crazy chicken, it’s a very beautifully crafted woodwork. It is not easy to get at the moment, when it is not possible, I’ll build it myself. I’m not a carpenter, (only master electrician), but I have also a small wood workshop and lots of screen printing plates to build cases. So I need only the alu profiles and fittings and a power supply for EuroRack: TPS80W PSU (Type A) by Intellijel Designs (Canada)

Has anybody ideas for other stuff or has anyone had any experience with the devices mentioned? Thank you, also for only retooting and sorry for the long text. :smilie_flower_girl_glasses:

First of all I must mention #MachineRoom - a community in #Kyiv, giving workshops, concerts, developing and building own modules and they have also a shop: machineroom.com.ua/

There I ordered a case of the #Ukrainian manufacturer of modules and cases, #crazychicken. machineroom.com.ua/shop/?attro

And before I go on, I want to mention #sitkainstruments, with his very interesting module #Gravity machineroom.com.ua/product/gra you can also order in Machine Room and also in well-sorted other shops of #modularsynths. If you have questions about, you can directly ask on mastodon @oleksiy

As first module I wish the #EndlessProcessor of #BlukačInstruments blukac.com/ - also a manufacturer of #Ukraine.

The name of #DniproModular reveals the origin of Ukraine:
machineroom.com.ua/shop/?attro
dnipro-modular.net/

Another Ukrainian manufacturer is #KnobFarm: knob.farm/
also available by Machine Room machineroom.com.ua/shop/?attro

Other Ukrainian producer of modules is Happy Nerding: happynerding.com/ machineroom.com.ua/shop/?attro
I hope, I have not forgotten too much.

It's been a very long time since I last 'really listened' to the #electronicmusic #synthmusic #AnalogSynth #sequencer world, and it's great to hear how much it's moved on. The bass lines have become so much more funky... the chords and harmonies are richer and more diverse... but all without loosing the core of what makes that drifting, immersive and hypnotic feel.
I hear the influence that Joe Zawinul has had... Sakamoto too... It takes time for the groundbreakers to get absorbed... I'm old! 😂

So, uh… what’s a subtractive synth then?

The name is good hint!

Basically, you start with a harmonically-rich audio source. On an #analogSynth, this is usually a #VCO (which stands for voltage-controlled oscillator).

Then you subtract some of those harmonics. On an analog synth, you do this with a #VCF (voltage-controlled filter). By changing the frequency of the filter over time, you get sonically interesting results.
