Sepia real photographic postcard showing a view of the Quayside at Bideford in North Devon.
Published by Valentine & Sons Ltd, Dundee & London, No 207159, photo registered in 1929, c.1940s.
Postally unused, possibly, but with orange 2d stamp and address of Mr & Mrs Sibly, Bond Street, Redruth, Cornwall.
Good condition, with slight corner bumps.

Photography. A color photo of a helping hand on a crooked tree. A wooden sculpture in the shape of a hand clenched into a fist, holding a heavy branch to prevent it from breaking. A sculpture has been standing under an old green tree (called "Wonky Conker") for 20 years, holding a heavy branch that is growing to one side. The photo shows a light-colored sidewalk next to it.
Info: Originally, all the trees on the banks of the river were to be felled. However, resistance arose and a local artist was commissioned to find a solution for the old tree. A metal support disguised as a wooden wrist with a hand and fingers made of oak was conceived and realized. The tree is healthy and has become a tourist magnet.

Last weekend's #Bideford #Triathlon run by the #RotaryClub there, smothly and efficiently as always. Smaller than in previous years. Good weather, but some broken stuff on the roads from Storm Antoni the previous day. #Mono because the picture seemed to suit it. #sport #photography #cyclist #Devon

Bideford Quay. We were there photographing one of several races the #Bideford athletic club organise, sometimes in conjunction with the town's Rotary Club.

Neal Stephenson's fictional account of the early days of the Royal Society, etc etc, The Baroque Trilogy, includes GRUBENDOL an anagrammatic address for a member.

A ship, the Oldenburg, which is the tender for Lundy Island based and here docked at Bideford.
