trying out #Blender 4.5 LTS. Now includes a built in '.OBJ import' geometry node.
Found a quick way to fix my DEM-derived meshes, to get rid of lakes - or lochs, this one is Scotland :)
Before, I'd go into edit mode, select a flat face, select-similar with a normal difference of 0, and delete the faces
This geometry nodes setup does the same thing, but faster and non-destructively.
Comparison is really dot-product equals 1 (or > .999999)

I offered to make hummus for a friend's BBQ recently. I sorta succeeded, but it was a real struggle with the old cheap blender I had. So recently I got a high speed blender. It does make hummus quite well. And I thought, *wow*, I'm going to have so many uses for this thing. So tonight I made my usual potato vegetable soup, and I blended it to a smooth creamy soup.
But upon eating it I thought, meh, this just tastes like bland goop. All the interesting tastes were just homogenised into a boring slimy goo.
Alright, here's a new batch.
Moved some of the material shader stuff into the Geometry Nodes setup so the cookies have more interesting shapes and are less reliant on bump maps for larger details.
Also added a layer of fine detail to the bump maps and adjusted the texture to be less busy overall.
The only downside is that the face count has gone up ~3.5x to accommodate the extra geometry.

Took me about 5 hours so far. Very much about this is unfinished. The lighting effect in the sky is too smooth and not bright-looking enough, there are no cherry blossoms, the clouds aren't right (and I think are supposed to be clusters of cherry blossoms in the original work), the lanterns aren't finished or hanging off anything, many branches are still missing, and the main branch isn't done, but I was intending it to be a pretty quick and rough reproduction, so I'm happy enough with where it is at this moment.
I may return to it at some point to work on it more and improve it, but not at this moment.
