📚 “I will not leave him in peace. I will not let him forget.”

👍 A beautiful girl, a brilliant mind, and the games played by Kings. This book takes a hard look at the power a woman wields while thinking herself a chess piece. The heartache is something to yearn for, because in yearning we truly live. We want most what we cannot have and that drives our story to its inevitable conclusion, because history is written by the victors.

Who recalls this one?

As I worked my way through the story I recalled thinking it was a silly satire back in middle school, I mean animals taking over a farm. Now that I am older I see it much differently. Each animal plays a role we have seen in humans as the story chronicles the evolution from a rebellion against tyranny to a totalitarian regime.

It sends a clear message, not as graphic as 1984, but just as relevant today as when it was first published in 1945.

"All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others."

Just some quick behind-the-scene design researches for my next leather pins (I have lots of ideas) and I'm so happy of my bookworm witch and my mammoth (my take on the mastodon mascot) ! What would you name them ?
Hoping to have them (in leather pins and stickers) for my next shop update in July !

Historical fiction, murder mystery

👍 This book was so damn GOOD. So haunting, so real, and as a person with sisters, I felt the underlying theme of female familial bonds. I loved the historical note at the end!

👎 Thus, my only complaint was at the end. I understand that this was also a romance, but I think the end was missing that extra special punch to the feels. I needed an on-page sister heart-to-heart.
