A joke about #ElonMusk told by #Canadian comic Seth Rogan at the ‘Breakthrough Prize’ ceremony on #YouTube (?) was ‘cut’ because it made fun of #broligarchs , such as #SergeiBrin and #MarkZuckerberg who are the event and prize sponsors.

Here’s the punch 🤜 line: “It’s amazing how much good #science you can destroy with $320 million and #RFK Jr., very fast.” huffpost.com/entry/seth-rogen-

#Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew welcomed an 18-nation strong trade delegation from the #EU, headed by Germany. They are interested in the deep water port near Churchill, #MB, minerals, and 'Green Energy'

The port is about 3,300 nm from Rotterdam, NL, about 4.5 days away. That's a swift passage for western crops to market, and more central #Canada. Substantial infrastructure investment are ongoing for shipping, port. Is this:

EEASEU Heads of Mission on joint official visit to ManitobaOTTAWA – European Union Ambassador Geneviève Tuts and 18 Heads of Mission of European Union Member States in Canada are embarking today on a two-day official visit to Winnipeg, Manitoba, as part of a Team Europe mission to the Canadian Prairies and the first in a series of joint outreach activities planned for 2025.

#PP is trying to be so #Canadian with his #Lays chip replay of "Bet you can't eat just one."

He won't stop at just one use of the notwithstanding clause.

I can't think of any use of the notwithstanding clause that was for the collective good - it is always about punishing some group or for a political advantage.

‘The political theatre comes in stark contrast to a building meant to celebrate friendship and cooperation.

Opened in 1904, before rules took effect that barred trans-border structures, the library and opera house were gifted by Martha Stewart Haskell, a #Canadian philanthropist, and her son Horace.

The aim was to gift something artistic to citizens of both countries for generations to come.’

ALL newsmedia seems to have waay too much contextualizing problems in terms of economic fears and tariff distresses and not nearly enough context about the totally fascist gov, threats to sovereignty, and innocent people in concentration camps.

The Canadians whom are going to avoid the US for the foreseeable future care about tariffs but they honestly care much more about fascistic governments and concentration camps.

MOST is failing to grasp this.

@kbsez This was a very interesting and well explained primer about a (to me) complex economic situation. As always, the skeptic in me asks, can it really be that simple? If so, it proves the #MAGAmoron doesn't think beyond his nose about what he's doing and there may be many ways to circumvent his tantrums. Or, is it simply a #Canadian wet dream?

One #random occurrence about the #tension between the US and Canada that has popped up locally...

There are (and have been for a few months) billboards around my city announcing United Airlines' new direct flights between #Regina (#YQR) and #Denver (#DEN). The billboards announce that flights start May 15. This has almost certainly been in the planning stages for at least a year; it takes time to negotiate with #airport authorities, obtain clearance from a foreign government, figure out how to schedule planes and crews and ground services without screwing up any existing routes, and on and on.

This is a big deal for my city; it's a small city, with lousy connectivity to, well, everywhere. You pretty much have to connect to #flights in Calgary or other bigger cities to get anywhere by #plane from here. Direct flights from Regina to USA destinations come and go over time as airlines try it, abandon it, rinse and repeat with a different airline.

And in the last couple of months, because of Orange Donny's decision to light #Canadian goodwill for the #USA on fire while dancing naked in the glow [1], air travel numbers from #Canada to the USA are down ... 70% from a year ago, at last report.

I don't think there is any air route which can be operated #profitably at 30% #occupancy.

I'm guessing those direct flights are not going to stick around long this time, either.

[1] I probably should have bought stock in a brain #bleach company before saying this.

My #Canadian friends, we must do all we can to keep Poilievre & his brand of hateful, divisive & unconstructive hubris out of government. He has such contempt & disrespect for Canadians & Canada that he hasn’t even obtained a security clearance. Does anyone actually believe that he *can*? He’s a national security & domestic affairs risk. He’s unfit.

Canadian Soups & Beans

We went rummaging in the cupboard while ago to clean out old stuff, especially old US stuff, and throw it out to make room. Found a bunch of cans 4-5 years expired; that is just too old for food in a metal can.

Did find a box of grits expired in 2016, but we ate them. They would last a hundred years. Still perfectly good!

So then hunting for Canadian soup and beans, we found Sprague Foods out of Bellville, ON. Got a whole bunch to try (from well.ca since there are no stores near us that carry Sprague).

Their soups are good! All organic and so on, but very tasty. I even liked the Mediterranean Lentil soup, and I can't stand most lentil dishes. Except the cauliflower soup--you have to be born on Vega for that one, I think.

Beans are OK but way too sweet. Have them for dessert.
