Breeches are a type of trousers. The expression "it's pants" means "it's unpleasant". Bobbing BoatI removed an electrical part for cleaning.A wire sparked⚡ and later I noticed my battery monitor was dark. It stayed that way after I cleaned and reconnected the part.I traced the wire from the back of the monitor in the control panel, through the bulkhead to the engine compartment, and into an electric box. And there it was: a blown fuse.Fuse replaced (2 for £1.09). Battery monitor works. No more freezing weather, so I can refill the water tank and plumbing, and start the spring cleaning.All winter, I've been filling a 5-litre water dispenser for drinking water. I've been using the toilet block to keep me and the dishes clean. Now I can do all that on board again.The water tank has a stainless steel flange and cap which unscrews. Their teacher shouts angrily to call them back.But it's WATER…! Bobbing Boat1700s canal engineers tried various weir designs. This one's circular. Excess water flowed down the channel and over the perfectly horizontal ring of bricks, to drain away.Sadly, this is part of an orphaned section of canal that is now fallow. Happily, there's a group of Lichfield volunteers rebuilding this canal and its locks, to reconnect it to the Birmingham Canal Network. This Is My GlasgowToday was a great day for indulging in a bit of gongoozling at the Applecross Basin on Forth and Clyde Canal in Glasgow. If you don't know already, gongoozling is the act of watching the activity on a canal, but without getting involved. Bobbing BoatAlong the dock, the marina has a number of prepay-type electric meters for shorelines. I keep a healthy balance on mine so the boat always has electricity.To top up my balance, the meter accepts prepaid cards made of paper with a brown magnetic strip in the centre. I lift up the plastic cover (held on by duct tape) to insert the card in a slot. Bobbing BoatAfter a week of freezing temperatures, the ice in the basin is 4 centimeters (1½ inches) thick.I was able to crack it by stomping on it hard, a few times. Then I lifted a huge plank of the broken ice and smashed it against the dock to free one of my ropes that had frozen in.No particular reason, just … I hadn't realised that the end of a rope had blown off my roof and had been dangling in the water. The embers of this morning's fire kept the boat at +4°C (39°F) inside.I waxed a log with candle stubs to help it ignite, then re-lit the stove.
