This is a less common bird you might see in a local park. It’s a Gang Gang cockatoo. They love Banksia flowers and Coast Banksia is very common around the Mornington Peninsula - so look out for them. Sometimes you’ll hear them first - they have a call like a creaky door!

Cockatoos are among the most well-known and loved members of the parrot family. They are found in Australia and the smaller island countries to the north and west, and they live in forested areas of all types, from eucalyptus groves to pine forests and rainforests.

This guy swooped me from the tree outside my place as I headed out for a walk yesterday. He then perched in the tree ahead watching me, including as I walked around the base of the tree taking a few photos. Cheeky.
I was doing a bit of a walk today and I could hear the #corellas before I could see them because it was so bright out and a lot of them were hidden. Noisy buggers when there's a big flock. I looked straight up and found this trio just sitting close together. The right one started to groom the middle one after a bit of cuddles. Very cute.
The #magpie family were singing for quite a long time & must have made 2 #cockatoos curious, as they flew in too.
One above my head on the roof & one near one of the #magpies on the guttering.
Nobody looks as happy as a happy cockatoo.
Made some friends with feathers, some friends with many legs, and some friends with leaves and flowers today, walking up Camel’s Hump in Tidbinbilla
The yellow-tailed black cockies were out in large numbers, squealing their magnificent squeal! Which was why I was lucky enough to get this shot
