Bernard Keane is not known for subtlety. In this article, he enumerates the #F35 ‘s failure points and pointedly calls into question the #Opposition ‘s election promise to purchase more at what appears to be a huge discount - or more accurately an underestimated overall cost.

It is no exaggeration to ask what the #ADF has to say about the 53% mission fitness asserted by the US about the costly fighter. Without any means to dispute what Keane says about the ‘pile of junk’ the aircraft is, I am left wondering if Australia wouldn’t be better off keeping and upgrading our #F18 . The tally of problems goes some ways to explain why the #Labor govt didn’t proced with the #LNP plan to purchase the remaining 28 units to bring the total up to 100 F35 fighters.

Throughout last week Yemen missiles rained down on military targets in Tel Aviv.

In response Israel bombed civilian targets in Sanaa Yemen. Targeting power stations an the port.

When this still did not stop the strikes on Tel Aviv the US launched airstrikes on Yemen resulting in the accidental friendly fire shoot down of two Navy airmen and their F/A-18 Super Hornet.

The Houthi's released this video recapping the week.

F18 In Star Wars Canyon

This F18 came in just below eye level as it passed the Crowley Point overlook. He was the second flight through the canyon for the day. Here he is banking hard left exposing the bottom of the jet before he dove deeper into the canyon. The pilot was flying nap of the earth as he exited the canyon heading out beyond the sand dunes.

F18 In Star Wars Canyon This is an image of a F18 Hornet flying through Star Wars Canyon just on the edge of Death Valley National Park. The official name of this area is Rainbow Canyon and the image was captured from just east of the Father Crowley view point. The jet is banking hard left exposing the underside of this amazing jet. You can see the detail of the jet along with the heat signature behind the tail. The far wall of the canyon is steep, rocky and baren.

F18 Level Flight In Star Wars Canyon

My first trip to "Star Wars Canyon" was such a thrill. There are no set times for the jets to fly as this isn't an air show. These pilots are flying the canyon to get flight hours and training.
In this image I captured the jet as he levels out after banking left right before he turns right and drops down deeper into the canyon.

F18 Level Flight In Star Wars Canyon This is an image of an F18 flying through Star Wars Canyon in Death Valley National Park. I captured this image just east of the Father Crowley's overlook for the official name of this area, Rainbow Canyon. Here the jet is near level with the south wall of the canyon banking slightly left before the pilot dropped further into the canyon. The background is the north wall of the canyon. The wall is barren and rocky and certainly poses a hazard to the jets flying through here.

F18 Hornet Up Rainbow Canyon

This F18 started high in the canyon and gradually dropped altitude as it flew through the canyon out towards the dunes in the distance.
I was hoping to see some afterburners but that wasn't . What I did see was a jet flying at an altitude as low or lower than I've ever seen.
It was a real pleasure to see this kind of precision flying outside of an air show.

F18 Hornet Up Rainbow Canyon This is an image of a F18 Hornet flying through Rainbow Canyon in Death Valley National Park. I captured this image just east of Father Crowley's overlook. The jets use this area for low altitude flight training. This jet came in over the hill and dropped into the canyon flying below the rim of the canyon. You can look down on this jet as if you were flying above it. Behind the dart shaped jet you can see the heat signature coming from the rear of aircraft. The bare, rocky, canyon walls can be seen on the other side of the canyon as the pilot performs this dangerous maneuver through the canyon.

F18 And The Jedi Transition #1

This F18 came in low as it passed the Crowley Point overlook. This was the 5th flight through the canyon for the day and the second F18 Hornet. As I watched these jets power through the canyon I noticed that there were a number of them that came from the same unit based on their tail markings.

F18 And The Jedi Transition This is an image of a US Navy F18 flying through what is known as the Jedi Transition just outside of Death Valley National Park near the Father Crowley's overlook. The area is also known Star wars Canyon, the official name of the area is Rainbow Canyon. The fighter jet is flying below the rim of the canyon practicing low level flying. Here you can see the top of the jet as it flies through the canyon. The canyon floor and rocky walls can be seen in the background.
