An event by Free Them All Berlin & T.o.N. in Zielona Gora

Worldwide as well as in Berlin, there has been support for many years for the demand of all indigenous communities in the USA to finally release Leonard Peltier.

At the event, we will talk about his life and consider what we can do here in Berlin to free him.

Leonard Peltier is an Ojibway (Chippewa) Lakota and survivor of the child and youth boarding school program for the destruction of indigenous ways of life in the USA.

He has been a political prisoner of the U.S. government since 1976 for his involvement in defensive struggles against environmental destruction (uranium mining) and deadly racial violence on the Pine Ridge Reservation. As a member of the American Indian Movement (AIM), he and others succeeded for the first time in the early 1970s in calling into question the murderous colonization of the Americas in the USA.

Today marks the 134th anniversary of the MASSACRE at Wounded Knee, and that's most definitely what it was, a MASSACRE of unarmed women, elderly and children and men too, with effing machine guns. A disgrace from which the country has never recovered, and seems especially unlikely to ever in times like this. The least we could do, the very least is to today. Come on Joe. Do the right thing.

Continued thread

So there you have it, and as a granpa myself, it kinda takes my breath away, the disrespect of carving up a native people's mountain, named Six Grandfathers and replace that with a white-washed granite caricature of two men who depended on slaves for their very livelihood, one man who vaunted white supremacism and Abe Lincoln who ceded the west to whites. Sad stuff for heroes on a mountain, smdh

Just for a little perspective, Mt. Rushmore, that desecration of Six Grandfathers, the peak's former Lakota name since the first days these peoples' roamed this land as their own, even though that concept was anathema to them, and well after America betrayed the Sioux and walked away from, trampled all over more like it, the Ft Laramie Treaty of 1868, and stole the Black Hills from the Sioux, well Mt. Rushmore was finished
