Recovered Expert<p>Seen Hummingbird hawk-moths a few times over the years here in south eastern Germany. Yesterday I‘ve managed to snap photos of one at my in-laws garden. </p><p>Takeaway: my 20+ year old macro lens w/ it‘s 30y old design is good enough for immobile or slow objects, but too slow for most living creatures. I should probably upgrade. A hummingbird hawk-moth is visiting our pink lantanas every other evening. They prefer certain colours and return to the same places if they know that they can get nectar from there. They also can drink from up to 100 flowers per minute, making it difficult to get a really good photo.
The German name “Taubenschwänzchen” translates as “dove tale”, because of the form of its tail.
