#OnThisDay, 31 Jan 1945, women in Italy gained the right to vote in general as well as local elections.

Women voted in Italian general elections for the first time in 1946.

There's a marvellous photo over on getty showing an 82 year old woman being helped to vote for the first time in 1946.

Als ich vor dem Petersdom stand, war ich fasziniert von seiner äußeren Schönheit. Die majestätische Fassade, die kunstvoll gestalteten Statuen und die riesige Kuppel zogen meinen Blick magisch an. Jeder Stein schien Geschichten zu erzählen, und ich fühlte mich von der Größe und Pracht des Bauwerks überwältigt.

As I stood before St. Peter's Basilica, I was captivated by its outer beauty. The majestic facade, the intricately crafted statues, and the towering dome drew my gaze. Every stone seemed to tell a story, and I felt overwhelmed by the grandeur and magnificence of the structure.

Als ich mich der Santa Maria Maddalena in Rom näherte, war ich sofort beeindruckt von der barocken Fassade. Die eleganten Kurven und kunstvollen Details zogen mich in ihren Bann. Es schien, als würde die Fassade die Geschichte der Stadt erzählen – ein wahres architektonisches Juwel mitten in Rom.

As I approached Santa Maria Maddalena in Rome, I was immediately captivated by its baroque façade. The elegant curves and intricate details drew me in. It felt as though the façade itself was telling the story of the city – a true architectural gem in the heart of Rome.

Als ich vor der Fontana dell'Acqua Felice stand, war ich beeindruckt von ihrer Geschichte und Schönheit. Dieser Brunnen, 1587 erbaut, trägt nicht umsonst den Namen "Moses-Brunnen". Es fasziniert mich, dass Papst Sixtus V. damals ein so ehrgeiziges Projekt startete, um Rom mit frischem Wasser zu versorgen. Ein wahres Stück lebendige Geschichte.

When I stood in front of the Fontana dell'Acqua Felice, I was captivated by its history and beauty. Built in 1587, it’s known as the "Moses Fountain" for a reason. I find it fascinating that Pope Sixtus V undertook such an ambitious project to supply Rome with fresh water. A true piece of living history.

This is the Foro di Pompei at the Pompeii Archaeological Park (Parco Archeologico di Pompei). You can see the Centauro di Igor Mitoraj in the distance. The foro was ancient Pompeii's main piazza. I took this in 2022 while I was in Italy.

In the lower right-hand corner, there is a clear area made of dark grey stone. Going from the lower left-hand corner to the upper right-hand corner, there are foundational pillars. The most distant pillars are topped with a horizontal stone, followed by another level. A pegasus statue is visible in the distance.
