US #warships & #jets launched attacks across #Yemen, targeting radars, air defense sites & drone launch points, a defense ofcl said. The operation is the beginning of a campaign targeting #Houthi military capabilities following attacks against merchant ships & US forces in the region.

“The Houthi attack on American vessels will not be tolerated,” #Trump posted on social media. “We will use overwhelming lethal force until we have achieved our objective.”

[On the origin of slow and fast solar winds] In late 2022 - early 2023, ESA's #SolarOrbiter probe orbited in relative proximity to the #Sun - less than 50 million kilometers away, enabling the onboard instruments to capture high-resolution images of #jets in coronal holes and make direct measurements of the solar wind.

These jets, omnipresent in the dark regions of the solar atmosphere, have been shown to be a source of both slow and fast #SolarWind: for almost a minute, they project charged particles at a speed of 100 km/sec.

Supersonic #jets emitted by active galactic nuclei can set the surrounding plasma in motion. Here is a visualisation of the velocity field of the simulated intracluster medium (velocity component parallel to the line of sight) evolving under the activity of a central active galactic nucleus, in a recent simulation by Stefano Sotira, PhD student working with the me at the University of Bologna (full paper here: arxiv.org/pdf/2410.07314)
