Official update on our #SpeedPuzzling shenanigans:

We came nowhere near last! Shocked ourselves with 1 hour 10 minutes!

At one point I ended up in the loos with two well-known puzzletubers, and I also got recognised from YT as well (hi Chloe if you ever see this toot!).

Everyone was very friendly and my puzzle piece earrings were complimented by a stranger literally about ten seconds after we walked in the venue.

Ours was the bottom one in this pic, teapots was the solo puzzle, and the other one is just one I fancied as a souvenir because why not.

At work, we teachers have a table in the lounge area upon which we have a puzzle. We all work on this puzzle to varying degrees, and whoever puts in the final piece takes a picture and shares it with all of us.

I started a puzzle here at home during winter break, and got the frame in place. Today, I pulled it out (it's in one of those roll-up storage things), and wow, working on a 1,000 piece puzzle on your own is ... slow ... by comparison.

It will be pretty when it's finished.

www.lapl.orgA Puzzling History of Jigsaw PuzzlesI have been an avid puzzler all my life, but because of Covid, I have rekindled my love of doing puzzles. 1000 pieces are my jam, and I can usually finish one in the course of 2 to 3 evenings or a marathon weekend. You can find me on any given evening listening to an audiobook (downloaded from Overdrive or hoopla) and saying just one more piece...ooh one more...okay, last one...and then it's 3 a.m., and I'm yelling jigsaw! Seemingly lots of people did the same, as puzzle sales have reached levels that haven't been seen since the Great Depression.

An exciting weekend of #jigsawPuzzles (we did ok, not great but ok), #Eurovision (welcome to my last place as per usual, Malta), and losing yet another 3.5mm #crochet hook (have just ordered a six pack of replacements because it's inevitable they'll be needed).

Now a brief reprieve before the #SuperBowl, which I will fill with getting the steps in for #PikminBloom community day and also a bit of #knitting on this sleeve that's been sitting unloved for ages while I did easier things.

It's been quite the hashtaggy couple of days!

A partially complete cardigan sleeve, knitted from the cuff up in dark blue yarn. The stitch pattern alternates between vertical stripes of cabling and lace, with the lace sections looking a bit like a stack of tulip bulbs.

Well, Vincent Van Gogh’s Starry Night is now complete. This was not an easy one to complete. There was minor damage to one piece, which I have attempted to repair. See all the photos attached. It’s a 1,000 piece jigsaw, and is now ready for a new owner. Please DM me an address if you would like it. No charge, though if you want to contribute, feel free to make a donation to a charity of your choice.

A jigsaw of 100 pieces showing the painting Starry Night by Vincent Van Gogh. The painting is in oils, and features blues, yellows, greens, and many dark colours. It shows a swirly starry sky, with a yellow crescent moon in the upper right, swirls of whitish/pale mist or cloud, several stars in various unfocused circles of yellow or white. There are hills or mountains across the mid section, and a town in the lower third right of the picture. A large brown/black/dark curved structure is to the prominent left, with several different points on it as it narrows going upward to the top of the painting. I have circled in red where the damaged piece fits in the bottom row centre of the jigsaw.

There are green/brown swirls to the left, some green/blue horizontal lines in the area, and some cream and orange and black brush strokes to the right. A small piece of dark brown plastic highlights the missing part.
The missing part filled in - using some Loctite glue and some paper pieces, I attempted [badly] to remake the missing half of the jigsaw piece, and the coloured it with a black marker. The piece of dark brown plastic is a backer joining the pieces on either side to the missing part.
