Of Telephoto Lenses: The term ‘telephoto lens’ is nowadays generally misapplied to longer focal length lenses, as opposed to wide angle lenses. In fact, ‘telephoto’ has nothing to do with focal length, but designates a particular lens design. But photographers generally don’t concern themselves with the intricacies of lens construction, yet in this case it makes a big practical difference when using a view camera. ... #Photography, #FilmPhotography, #LargeFormat: aye.tf/2025/05/28/telephoto

Morning mist lies on the meadows shortly before sunrise.

I found this recording by chance in my archive. It is one of my first attempts with a large format 4x5 camera. I guess I just forgot about it and never scanned it. It is always exciting to scan negatives and only then see the real result of a shot. But after so long, it's a real surprise and brings back memories.

For the recording I used a Linhof Technika III. I had the film developed in a lab and scanned the negative with my Epson V700.

Dawn at Barraglom: This one took a bit of an effort, but I am quite happy with the result, I think I can make this one work well with a bit of localised bleaching, the challange will be not to make it look like it is artifically lit (which it is not). I have another five, more pedestrian, images taken over the course of an hour or so, maybe there is a small triptych in there. ... #Gallery, #BW, #Scotland, #LargeFormat, #Photography: aye.photos/2025/05/24/pre-down

Sonata for a Turd and Two Neolithic Stones: A 4x5 negative scan with a small amount of digital post processing. I only spotted the turd when the camera was set up; it was very fresh, so I am pretty sure its author was on a Rabbies tour bus that stopped there about 20min earlier (should the person require credit, they can contact me, I’ll happily let the world know who they are). ... #Gallery, #BW, #Scotland, #LargeFormat, #Photography: aye.photos/2025/05/24/sonata-f

At Callanish III: A 4x5 negative scan with a small amount of digital post processing. As I expected, the separation between the stones and grass here is poor (separation between green and grey is nigh impossible to improve with filters). It might be possible to improve this a bit with bleaching, probably worth a try, but more likely to be revisited in the autumn. ... #Gallery, #BW, #Scotland, #LargeFormat, #Photography: aye.photos/2025/05/24/callanis

Five Millenia of Erecting: Taken at Callanish III, Lewis. I am quite happy how this came out, looking forward to working on the print, but not entirely sure about the crop for now. Sonata for a Turd and Two Neolithic Stones: I have a yet to be developed negative in the works that I have great hopes for, with the above working title. It was taken at Callanish II, and I only spotted the turd when the camera was fully set up: fresh, large and well formed, tastefully decorated with toilet paper. I am pretty sure its author was on a Rabbies tour which stopped there only about 20min earlier while I was taking pictures at the nearby Callanish III. This is in a village, 100m from someone’s house. It would have required suitable tools to remove, which I didn’t have with me … what the fuck is wrong with people?! ... #Scotland, #VisitScotland, #StandingStones, #Turd, #Photography, #LargeFormat: aye.tf/2025/05/20/sonata-for-a
