Anyone remember pressing their nose to a CRT television and seeing the RGB grille?

Had a dream I was looking at my cellphone. I eventually scrolled to an image that had sort of a CRT grille effect filter, except...

It looked odd, so I instinctively pressed my nose against the cellphone screen.

Whomever had made the image had hidden extra visual information within the image. It felt like one of those magic eye images but on steroids.

#genuary11 - Impossible Day. Inspired by a comment on another fractal I posted suggesting it looked like a "Magic Eye" image, I wanted to try turning a fractal image into a 3D autostereogram. Maybe not impossible, but certainly ambitious for a genuary post. I came up with two variations - the first one where each layer of the fractal is rendered at a slightly different zoom level to give the perception of depth. The other uses a depth mask to embed a 3D image by shifting pixels of individuals rows. #stereogram #autostereogram #magiceye #genuary #genuary2025

So @krooshof made an awesome looking hand-crafted brass and wood 3D camera!

I'm not even remotely skilled in this craft, but I had two boards, one breadboard and one 16-color-image firmware, and two days left on the

Unfortunately, the 3D effect doesn't really work in GBC resolution, so here are squeezed 2x 320x200 EGA pictures, taken on two loosely synchronized ESPs to two microSD cards. The dithering gives them a bit of a feeling 😎

Made another Magic Eye. :D

(hidden for eye strain)

Probably won't work on a phone screen. They're created to be viewable at a specific resolution, this one is 1920x1080 and will probably require opening in a separate tab, or downloading the image.
