“HIGHLIGHTS
• [They] propose the first comprehensive quality framework for street view imagery.
• Framework comprises 48 quality elements and may be applied to other image datasets.
• [They] implement partial evaluation for data in 9 cities, exposing varying quality.
• The implementation is released open-source and can be applied to other locations.

#Panoramax - das neue #StreetView!

Vor einigen Jahren wurde
#Mapillary an #Meta verkauft. Und auch #Google StreetView möchte vielleicht nicht jeder nutzen.

Mit Panoramax gibt es nun eine
#FOSS Alternative. Sie soll dezentral organisiert werden. Dies ist meines Wissens die erste Instanz:

Kleiner Tipp:
Falls man das AdOn
#ClearURLs verwendet, kommt man eventuell über die Animation wegen Blockierung von ETags nicht hinaus. Deshalb nutze ich Panoramax als #Firefox-PWA am Desktop.

Two weeks since joining a casual meet-up of local tech enthusiasts, I found them actively re-mapping their town in #OpenStreetMap, making quick updates with @organicmaps , working on @streetcomplete quests, or playing with ground-level imagery collection (like this screenshot of a photo contributed to #Mapillary)

It was interesting how they've used it to add things relevant for them: adding walkways, bike routes, remote settlements and chapels, and (hopefully) having fun at the same time.

Here's a project I've been working on the past few days.

I record all of my bike rides with a 360 camera on my helmet then archive the footage to my NAS. It's mostly to act as sort of a dashcam, but it's also incredibly useful to have fresh street-level imagery on-hand for #OpenStreetMap edits.

But the problem is trying to remember what video passes by the location I need. Surprisingly, there was no tool to easily map out videos with GPS tracks on a map, so I made my own!

My original intention for this project was only to display the tracks and the path to the video so I could watch it in an external player, but I ended up making basically a self-hosted #mapillary

It watches a specified directory for new video files, automatically imports the GPS track, then processes the video into an image sequence so you can view them on the map.

Not quite ready for public release yet, but I plan to open source it and make it easy to deploy on popular NAS platforms :)

Summer is the season for updates !

So, Pic4Carto.js got its code updated 🌠 What is it ? A simple #JavaScript library to retrieve geolocated street #pictures nearby 📍 📷

An easy way to get images from @panoramax, #Mapillary, #Wikimedia Commons and so on.

Want to try it out ? Here you go : framagit.org/Pic4Carto/Pic4Car

New things in 3.0 : support for Panoramax, KartaView, more modern code style and tooling. Feel free to send me your feedback 😀

Continued thread

Another longtime issue with #Mapillary #OpenStreetMap integration is the ridiculously long processing times for images.☹️ Mapillary images used to appear in OSM within hours - not great for editing OSM elements w/image ID refs.☹️ Nowadays, Mapillary images appear literally *days* later.😡👎It's unreasonable to expect volunteer OSM contributors to add or modify objects based on device images, upload images, then wait, revisit days later to add Mapillary IDs to OSM roads, trails, street furniture.☹️
