As the sun sets slowly in west central Florida, a beautiful golden light is cast over the waters and shores of the Gulf of Mexico on this balmy summer evening. A sky laden with heavy clouds adds drama to an already spectacular end to the day.

Captured this image of “surfer boy” late one afternoon who was looking to catch the perfect wave in the churned-up Gulf. Although Florida is not California or Hawaii for the size of waves, surfing is a popular sport here, usually bringing out the surfers after a storm.

Another gorgeous but sultry summer sunrise over a secluded cove on the Florida Gulf coast. Getting up early to watch the sun come up is always worth the trip because we’re seldom disappointed to see what Nature has in store.

A lone Great Egret stalks the shallow waters of the Intracoastal Waterway, looking for that last meal of the day. Sunset colors linger in the western sky as nightfall and encroaching clouds steal the last light of the day. Love these moody nights on the Florida Gulf coast.

This photo was taken one afternoon when we visited a Great Horned Owl nest we had been watching. Mama was keeping one eye (literally) on her three youngsters in the nest below when I snapped this picture of her just catching 40 winks … no pun intended. :)
