I started prepping for season two of House of the Dragon last night by re-watching season one. I’m watching the very end of episode three as I type this.
I am glad that I watched HotD before I watched all of Doctor Who. I think my feeble little brain would have typecast Matt Smith as a fish chips and custard eating nerd of an 11th Doctor and would therefore have had a tough time seeing him as the action star he is in HotD.
Maybe. Maybe not. I mean, maybe the guy is just really good at his job.
Having said that, I wonder if now knowing Matt Smith as The Doctor will make all the incest in HotD even more difficult to watch than it already was. Probably. If only Amy and Rory could come and save him from it all.

Doctor Who is back and I am.. cautious.
I love #NuWho. It was such a great experience as newlyweds to watch it with my wifey over a pizza. From the "Silence in the Library" two parter on it had thrilling episodes, a super charismatic David Tennant, great #SciFi fun.
Then came #MattSmith. Everyone has their #doctor I think. And he is ours. His first season is I think the greatest continuous arc in this iteration. He was funny and kind and old and alien and marvellous.

At every turn, the settings of Lost River afford amazing visuals: a decaying empty theater, underwater monster village, grand guignol acts, etc. Gosling keeps his childhood memories close & amps up the fantasy/nightmare aspects. He also wisely peppers in non-actors from the neighborhood to give the film's rather simple storyline resonance & subtext of a grand scale urban decay - the evidence of lost American Dream. #RyanGosling #SaoirseRonan #ChristinaHendricks #MattSmith #fantasy #horror
