I'm going to a wedding in the fall and am in serious need of a new suit. Where does the mature gent supposed to shop nowadays? I’ve looked at the usual national brand mens stores as well as the big department stores and am underwhelmed. I’m not looking for designer wear and would look ridiculous in skinny styles (we used to call them flood pants). Where's Moe Ginsburg when you need him?

Men’s designs have a more distinct Japanese flair and they’re usually bolder in general. I just need to get them in the small size.” So what menswear pieces does Aw find herself drawn to?  “I like a variety of o…

So, I've been hearing a lot about Tariffs. And I thought I'd reach out to some small and medium-sized brands that are already based in the US, and ask them what they think. Spoiler: not all of them are super excited. Enjoy: Tariffs and the American Clothing Business.

Since this post is about fashion, let me start by answering the question that I am sure will be on your mind upon seeing my name. No, I am not related to The Beau. However, I love dandyism as a whole, and I took this name in tribute. I am also working to have his book, Male and Female Costume, published online freely, but that's for another post and time. At any rate, I am forty-one and am passionate about antique menswear, Regency as a scholarly pursuit, and Edwardian for daily wear. Naturally, I am constantly researching and trying to expand upon my knowledge. I am totally blind, so I must rely on descriptions rather than images.

I am the type who would like to wear a three-piece suit and accessories everywhere I go. I've decided that for my first one, I should get a lounge suit, since I can wear it almost anywhere during the day, provided it's not a formal occasion. I will eventually have morning wear, white tie, black tie, and informal evening wear, but that's for later. I have found some sites which create reproductions of men's Edwardian suits, but most use synthetic materials and/or zippers, which I refuse to wear, and none uses fabrics of the proper thickness. I found sites that make women's suits with men's specifications (no ridiculous enhancements of breasts, butt, shallow pockets, soft colours, buttons on the wrong sides of shirts, etc.) but they only make modern clothing. Ebay and Etsy occasionally have some authentic pieces, but most are too formal for daily use, even by Edwardian standards! I am also having difficulty with finding some accessories, such as proper ties and socks without elastic. My other option is to have a suit commissioned, but for that, I need to find a good tailor. The best in the world, in my opinion, is Zack Pinsent, but he's in England and I'm in America (New Jersey).

I am seeking those who share my interest in antique menswear, and perhaps some advice as to where I can find such clothing and/or accessories. Even a bathing suit would be great, since we do own a saltwater pool.

Those of you who wear #masc presenting clothes - when did you last wear a formal shirt with a #tie ?

Last time for me was a relatives wedding, nearly a decade ago - even when I was working in public service in 2000s I rarely wore one (Tony Blair even said it was no longer necessary) and have never done so at my current job - I'm often doing hardware installs or even vehicle and building maintenance work, so it would be a safety risk anyway #menswear #clothing #fashion #necktie :BoostOK:

This is a photoshoot/interview I did last year. Originally meant for Behind the Blinds, a huge men's editorial.
It was moved to their smaller publication Shadowplay for the pride issue, without notifying me. When I asked why it moved I was told that it just fit better in Shadow Play, and that if I didn't agree they could just pull the whole editorial entirely. Everyone on set worked really hard for this shoot, so I couldn't let it not be published anywhere.
But it is not lost on me the reality of the publications decision as well as the power imbalance going on.
That frustrated the hell out of me, I felt my experience in masculinity wasn't enough or valued for all types of men to read and relate too. I felt like they wanted to hide me, they didn't expect the styling and energy to be so feminine. I love my trans community, I also want to help encourage cis men to grow and heal, I can't very well do that if I'm restricted to smaller branching spaces. I guess atleast it got published tho sometimes i dream about what it could've been had they gone with the original plan and stayed courageous.

I think fashion now a days is playing it too safe tbh. ♡

Quality costs more up front, but is more frugal in the long run. The cost per wear goes down when the garment lasts a very long time and is used many times. Of course, that means you have to be able to afford the up-front cost. I've been lucky to be able to afford made-to-measure clothing. On the other hand, that's not massively more expensive compared to off-the-rack.
