Merriam-Webster's Word of the Year is "authentic." The team who made the choice say that this year it saw a substantial increase in lookups, thanks to conversations around AI and celebrity culture. There were several other words that generated buzz in 2023. Which of the following didn't make the list?

That could be good or bad, depending on which #Tumblr subcultures. I love seeing the quirky #fandoms and #furries, though I'm not in those communities, because I'm happy to see people finding their tribe (note: use of this term isn't cultural appropriation of First Nations, it's used all over the world and "a group of persons having a common character, occupation, or interest" in #MerriamWebster), as long as it's positive, constructive, inclusive, and safe, so no hate groups!
«Gaslighting is so commonly discussed that #MerriamWebster deemed the expression its word of the year in 2022, after experiencing a 1,740% increase in searches for the term. But experts say there are a lot of misconceptions around what #gaslighting is and isn’t.»

PSA: "average" really is _any_ of mean, median, or mode.
First definition in Merriam-Webster:
: a single value (such as a mean, mode, or median) that summarizes or represents the general significance of a set of unequal values

Yes, "mean" is perhaps most commonly understood. It's not the exclusive definition however.
#MerriamWebster announced an additional definition for #they: a third-person, singular pronoun for #nonbinary people. And Oxford has been criticized for its entry under “woman.”
"That the oldest #dictionary publisher in the United States has added its imprimatur to this meaning of the pronoun could be seen as a powerful statement about evolving understandings of #gender #identity.
Or it could be seen as something much more elementary: a reflection of #changingtimes."
