It's almost time for morel season in Michigan.
I've done spring and fall mushroom hunting, but have never specifically gone out to look for morels.
So, uh #bloomscrolling?
I went out back, and looked to forage #morel mushrooms. I found none. But it wasn't a bummer!
Instead I found 10s of thousands of Twinleafs and trilliums!
Twin leaves are https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeffersonia and are very uncommon. Most patches are 20 or so plants. Our patch is far as the eye can see!

I find a few of these Morels in my yard most years. Only two bites were left to go with the rest of my lunch. Early sampling to blame
We have had a lot of cool, wet, rainy days here in #Minnesota the past couple of weeks. While that has sucked for mountain biking, it was very good for morel mushroom growing.
It's hard to believe that there will be snow tomorrow at #ForkedMeadow #California where it is currently 58f after a high of 59f and an overnight low of 33f. The snow banks in the forest are in full retreat, the first #morel #mushrooms of spring have come up, the frogs are singing, the grass is green and growing, and it feels like winter is behind us.
But the central #SierraNevada never really escapes from winter. It can snow any month of the year.
Hey fungal mastodonians! Found this in my backyard in SE Michigan. Unfortunately, I had already stepped on it but it was rounder. Any ideas what specific kind it is?
My youngest and I were in the woods behind our house clearing out invasive honeysuckle and he stumbled across these tasty guys. He has found three so far.

The first week of my Woodland Wonders preorder went so well I decided to go ahead and order a batch of the morels.

If you love Morel mushrooms, May is the month to search for these delicacies of nature especially in deciduous woods, around Trilliums or other spring flowers. You know it's a real Morel if you slice it and it has a hollow interior, beware the false ones as they can make you sick! This one was found at edge of my pond.
