'It is wonderful to see the growing number of people working on digital commons, inventing and improving technologies to the benefit of all humanity. 42 of such projects have been selected for funding in the October call of the NGI Zero Commons Fund. In terms of applications, it was the largest call round in NGI Zero's life time.'

nlnet.nlNLnet; 42 Free and Open Source Projects Receive Funding to Reclaim the Public Nature of the Internet

We need to shape native paths, not recreate #fashionista ones with shinier branding

We’ve got a new bunch of #mainstreaming tech devs flooding into the #Fediverse. Some from burned-out Big Tech, some from the academic funding circuits, some just looking for the next shiny project after the #AI hype wore thin. Now, this could be good. IF even a few of them started working on native, grassroots tech - tools built for and by the communities who actually use them, not just more #dotcons platform clones. Right now, we’re at a turning point. The first wave of the Fediverse […]

We need a free/libre fork of #Android for the public commons. Google cannot be trusted.

Maybe that could be #lineageos or #Graphene, but given that they build on top of Android rather than driving the core development, I'm not certain they would be enough as it stands.

@josemurilo Good points :)

@volkris the issue with your comment is that the #Fediverse comes from a long history, and it embodies this history, which is where the value comes from.

Yes, it comes from meany sub cultures, these are better described as communities rather than users. Hope that makes sense.

Keeping mess is grassroots cultural, allowing it to be messy is neoliberal #mainstreaming?

I agree with your point about the devs and funding from #NGI and #NLnet an on rolling mess.

#NLnet #EU #NGI #NGIzero – Will We Get It Right This Time? hamishcampbell.com/nlnet-eu-ng let’s ask again: Has #NLnet and the #EU stepped up this time? Are we funding the future, or are we just shuffling papers while the #deathcult eats our humanistic heritage and the last remains of the #openweb?

@forgefed Congrats! The MoU for our #NLnet grant will be signed in the next days, too. We'll list our tasks then as well. To give a little spoiler: a lot of documentation, tools – and graphical visualization of our download statistics (overall as well as per-app) will be part of it…

NodeBB will be making an appearance at this year's FOSDEM!

I'll like be present at the Social Web dev room during FOSDEM itself, and will be presenting a talk at the Social Web After Hours event alongside @darius@friend.camp, @pfefferle@mastodon.social, and @j12t@j12t.social at Hackerspace Brussels (HSBXL), on Sunday evening.

I'll be talking up the SWICG Forum and Threaded Discussions Task Force, and what we're working on to solve one of fedi's hard problems: combating the notion that "the fediverse is quiet". Come and listen!

Thank you to the great folks at @ngizero@mastodon.xyz, who have kindly funded my way there this year.

And wouldn’t it be amazing if the EU actually funded those of us working on building exactly that?

I’ve lost track of how many times we’ve been rejected by NLnet/ngi, etc. and how much time I’ve wasted applying for such grants over the years.

We’ve had ZERO EU funding for the work we’re doing to build the first iteration of the Small Web.

Thank goodness I’m designing a simple sustainable business model into it with Domain as there’s no way it could exist if we were to depend on these institutions for support.

As I’ve been working more on it, I’ve reverted to its original name, Place.

@fresseng I just looked at their goals/plans.

"Topic groups that could act as journals."

This is one of the many things I would find great.

It seems to be a very ambitious project.

Good that they have #nlnet as support.

Code for #deltatauri is now public!

For now it contains only the most basic functionality - so more for the fellow developers to try out or/and review my code 😉. That being said, it is already surprisingly usable.

My proposal for integrating #GNUTaler with #Tryton/#GNUHealth was accepted by #NGITaler. 💯 🎉

I will develop a Tryton module which would allows users to integrate payments with Taler into their webshops, businesses.

Tryton is a popular libre business management system written in Python, used for operating webshops and enterprise resource planning - there are many modules for financial accounting, sales, inventory and stock, CRM, shipping, subscription management, etc. Existing payment provider integrations within Tryton are limited to specific proprietary payment providers, having a Taler based option would allow organisations to deal with Taler based payments (incoming as well as outgoing).

This includes the users of GNU Health (which is built on Tryton) and which provides libre alternatives for Hospital Management software, Health Information Systems and Electronic Health Records.
