Intel has formally ended support for the Clear Linux project.

A great guide on how to use Spectacle (KDE's screenshot/screen-recording tool) Many people use spectacle for screenshots, not everyone knows it also does a great job recording video.
After a decade of development, Intel has officially shut down Clear Linux OS. The project’s GitHub repo is now archived and read-only.

Open source software and saving up to build my own PC to run Linux has me more excited for both tech and the internet than I have been in decades!
#China’s #opensource #AImodels, such as #DeepSeek’s V3 and R1, have challenged US #techgiants like #OpenAI and #Google. These models, freely available for use and modification, have gained global support and redefined the AI landscape. https://www.scmp.com/tech/big-tech/article/3318747/how-chinas-open-source-ai-helping-deepseek-alibaba-take-silicon-valley?eicker.news #tech #media #news
A voluntary "FOSS subscription"
...for open tools and services that are useful to me.
I'm doing this since summer 2024.
Each project gets paid at least 5€ per month.
Let's take the monthly recurring revenue model of MS365 as an example but fund projects, that won't sell your data
I believe in monthly payments so the projects have a stable budget to operate with.
The list includes now:
- KDE (desktop on two devices, 10€)
- Thunderbird
- Signal
Joined today by:
- social.tchncs.de
So if you can, consider paying for the foss services you use
Thanks for hosting this platform @milan
Jack Dorsey drops $10M on "andOtherStuff" - a nonprofit building open source social apps while calling out Bluesky's VC structure.
Nothing says "I believe in decentralization" quite like funding your own alternative to the alternative you helped create. The "community of hackers" approach sounds refreshingly anti-corporate though!
Testing out "Natural Neighbour" interpolation of non-gridded/scattered 3D data. If only there was a fun boundary curve with some sharp features that I could use to test these methods.

Anyone know of a tool to automatically detect and blur faces in video?
I have a bunch of footage of train stations and the like but I don’t want to show random people’s faces. Ofc I’ll review it manually and fix anything it missed.
I could also definitely build this myself but I’d rather not reinvent the wheel (that’s how you know I’m not a cs person anymore lol).
A scribing device that costs but a few coins in the area of the bazaar where used goods are traded can serve you well on #Linux. #OpenSource https://cromwell-intl.com/open-source/hp-envy-xsane.html?s=mc
About #GPL .
If I buy a second-hand device with #Linux on it, who's responsible for giving me the sources?
It seems logical to me that the person I bought it from. But good luck getting sources from a private rando ( #sustainability #reuse ).
On the other hand, my #ISP sells me, say a #Huawei device. Is the ISP obliged to give me sources or can they say "it's not our problem" and send me to the manufacturer?
Is anyone here on #fiber #internet ?
Did you get a device from your #ISP ?
...is it running #Linux ?
I just realized I can't fnd any sources to the #Telekom Glasfaser Modem on the internet. Did no one ever request the #code under the GPL?
The device is powerful enough to use as a VPN endpoint. #openWRT deserves it!
