A.Stringer<p>Whilst I'm glad <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/coercivecontrol" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>coercivecontrol</span></a> is being recognised for the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/seriousharm" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>seriousharm</span></a> it causes, this article is somewhat misleading (or the media have been briefed incorrectly). Any serious harm risks (including coercive control) are already shared with other agencies by the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Probationservice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Probationservice</span></a>, this is not something new. A.Stringer<p>Amongst my many roles within the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/CJS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CJS</span></a> was that of NVQ assessor. I found that Supervisors who taught skills such as carpentry, gardening etc within the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/UPW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UPW</span></a> environment were more likely to get compliant <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/offenders" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>offenders</span></a> than those who didn't. In my opinion, it is no good punishing offenders if you do not also increase their motivation &amp; ability to avoid <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/reoffending" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>reoffending</span></a>. <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/SkilledUPW" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SkilledUPW</span></a> is one way of doing this </p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Unpaidwork" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Unpaidwork</span></a> in the unified <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/probationservice" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>probationservice</span></a> - Russell Webster<br><a href="https://www.russellwebster.com/unpaid-work-in-the-unified-probation-service/" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">russellwebster.com/unpaid-work</span><span class="invisible">-in-the-unified-probation-service/</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/Crime" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Crime</span></a></p>
A.Stringer<p>Want to know why I left the <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/ProbationService" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ProbationService</span></a> in 2018. Bc, in my 15 year career, the only consistent period when I wasn't overworked to breaking point was during my qualification training. Those 2 yrs were full of promise &amp; expectation never fulfilled. It was once a job for life. It isn't any more. </p><p>Union warns of <a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/probationofficer" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>probationofficer</span></a> shortage ahead of prisoners’ early releases | Prisons and probation | The Guardian<br><a href="https://www.theguardian.com/society/article/2024/aug/20/union-warns-of-probation-officer-shortage-ahead-of-prisoners-early-releases" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="ellipsis">theguardian.com/society/articl</span><span class="invisible">e/2024/aug/20/union-warns-of-probation-officer-shortage-ahead-of-prisoners-early-releases</span></a></p><p><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/CriminalJusticeSystem" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>CriminalJusticeSystem</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/prison" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>prison</span></a> <br><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/lawandorder" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>lawandorder</span></a><br><a href="https://mstdn.social/tags/UKPrisons" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>UKPrisons</span></a></p>
