Proton · Proton Mail and Proton Calendar winter product roadmap | ProtonPreview upcoming updates to Proton Mail and Proton Calendar, including performance boosts, new features, and enhanced privacy tools.

I just made the switch from Gmail to Proton. I've had Gmail since 1999 (when it was still in beta). But no more. I'll be gradually moving away from using Google services. A few years ago I did the same with Apple, forwarding emails from there to Gmail. Now it all forwards to Proton.

Proton is based in Switzerland and emails on Proton are end-to-end encrypted and everything, even your calendar and contacts, are stored encrypted. Meaning, if they get served a warrant, there's really nothing they can turn over.

This is especially important in a country that is increasingly criminalizing the very existence of myself and people like me. Get your data out of the US and stored securely. It has never been more important. If not for yourself, then for the people you know.

We wszystkich tych listach brakuje mi produktów znad Wisły.

On VPN usage...

Hypothetically, any system on the web that you interact with can "know" you. And while it is true that VPNs are no different, the reality is that using a paid ProtonVPN or similar non-US based service would require that service to cooperate internationally with a warrant. Proton does not store where you visited. Good luck getting that info operationally into the hands of ICE as part of a dragnet.

After using Proton for 8 months, I made the move from #Proton 🠆 #Fastmail.

My thoughts:

👍 I love that Proton apps are open-source, this is a big win for me.

👎 Server-side Encryption - In theory this is a good idea, in practice this is a huge pain. On mobile, you're forced to use the Proton app, which is unbelievably slow. On desktop, you cannot verify senders with DKIM.
👎 Proton leadership supports what Trump is doing to the US, while not my reason for leaving, it gave me doubts about Proton.

I'm not sure what to think about @Vivaldi's integration of Proton VPN directly into the browser.

While this doesn't, necessarily, prevent choice, it does kinda impede it a bit.

This is the kind of behavior that has gotten Mozilla Firefox in trouble in the past. This is the behavior of Mozilla that has been the exact reason I've avoided Firefox (what will be forced on me next?).

Just be a really good web browser, please? I'd rather not have to go looking for another browser.
