Am Freitagmorgen ist ein Mann bei dem Versuch, über den Ärmelkanal von #Frankreich nach #UK zu gelangen ums Leben gekommen. #RNLI berichtet, dass ihr Rettungsboot in Dover zu einem medizinischen Notfall auf einem kleinen Boot im Kanal geschickt wurde.
Ein Mann wurde schließlich für tot erklärt. Er ist der zehnte Tote seit Anfang des Jahres.

Just seen a comment on FB from a chap in #Essex whose dad is in the #RNLI - his dad has been told by the #security team *not* to wear uniform off duty for his own safety due to the level of backlash against RNLI helping #migrants (from people who have 0 idea of how #maritime operations work, and that the whole concept of that service is to retrieve humans (and sometimes other creatures) who have ended up in the sea / tidal waterway but didn't intend to be there)..

We visited Anstruther, Pittenweem and Elie on "MrsD's birthday journey of discovery" in Fife. We managed an ice cream on the beach too! MrsD enjoyed her birthday. More exploring today.

Ray Lonsdale's 'The Coxwain', a sculpture at Seaham Harbour, Co Durham. It commemorates the courage and dedication of past and present members of the town's lifeboat station, in particular, those who lost their lives aboard the 'George Elmy' lifeboat in 1962. The Seaham Lifeboat Disaster, as it is referred to, is an event I clearly remember from my youth.

Well I've been here for two years so time for a little review.
Have totally abandoned and actively avoid the #xitter site. Confess a modest time spent on #facebook almost entirely to promote/follow a couple of charities that are close to my heart, especially #RNLI
Have no desire to join any algorithm based system however blue the sky.
Kinda like the way the toots fly off into the ether and sometimes folk react, and sometimes not. Hoping I manage to spread a little happiness and bring a few smiles to people's faces.
I really should do more than boost, especially in relation to the #ClimateEmergency, after all I do have a Masters in Sustainability and Adaptation.
So today's thought for the day: we've probably lost #1point5c, #COP needs some urgent reform, #bigoil is relentless in it's lobbying, but we mustn't give up hope. We can work together, the little voices do matter. Never give up, never surrender!

Yes indeed, I've 'given up FB' more or less, but still follow/post a page for the local Lifeboat (#rnli) as it remains a good way of engaging for the 'greater good'. I ignore all the cr@p the algorithm sends. Bit like fighting the #ClimateEmergency one meat free meal or recycled cardboard box at a time.
