If by ETS you mean École de technologie supérieure, they can insist on any credentials they want for instructors they hire. They cannot impose any kind of control on someone tutoring (outside the school's control) a subject that is part of their engineering curriculum, or someone tutoring one of their students in anything else.</p><p>If by "strict" you just mean that whatever professional body in Quebec gets to regulate the P. Eng. credential tries to stomp anyone using the word "engineer" for anything they do, that's common, and absolutely legally baseless. They all do it; I have a nice legal nastygram in my files from APEGS, who controls the P. Eng. designation in Saskatchewan, claiming I was in violation because my resume included the word "engineer" in job titles and I wasn't a member in good standing.</p><p>It was garbage, a bully ploy. I sent back a letter to their lawyer pointing to the actual legal precedent that showed they absolutely did not have the power they claimed to have, and told them to go pound sand. If one of these orgs pesters you about just using the word "engineer", rather than falsely claiming to have a P. And here is where I pause and think about why I reach for “new language” as my preferred tool/paradigm rather than just “program that reads a config file.” With #Racket, I can make it so the thing you would normally think of as “the config file” is actually “the program.” The config file can simultaneously also be a module you can import/reuse elsewhere. I do think that is pretty dang cool. But I’m not sure if it has any practical benefit?

I'm a #trans gal (pronouns: she/her) from the UK (British South Asian to be specific ig)~

I was also a PhD (graduated August 2024) working on programming languages research (though I work in formal verification, brain too small ​:aqua_cry:​ to understand category theory)

I do a lot of #drawing (see my pfp!!!), like #anime and #manga, esp those with good trans representation + #yuri ofc (recss welcomeee!!). I also play video games, but I suck and my computer is a potat ​:blobbee_nom_potato:​ so can't play anything too intensive~ love indie gamess, rpgs esp!!!

Before my egg cracked, I guess I liked #programming and was obsessed with the #OCaml programming language? I even wrote my own #activitypub server in it~ (look up OCamlot!!), Nowadays I guess I like #Racket and #lisp, but tbh I don't do it much outside of work lol

I also do #gamedev on and off in my free time (the bg of my profile is a chara from a game I'm working on), but I've never finished a projectttt cause I keep on procrastinating tooo muchhh ​:aqua_cry:​
