I used to store a lot of stuff I wanted to read in Pocket. Now I would like to find an open source alternative that I can self-host. The thing is: I don’t want to have to host a server-side application for it. I just want an app that can store my collected pages as static files in my Nextcloud. Does such a app exist?

Continued thread

What do you use to save and organize bookmarks and other internet finds? It doesn’t necessarily have to be the same tool for articles/read it later and other types of links, I’m interested in both.

I would really like something that saves pages/articles offline, so that I can still read it even if the original link may no longer exist. A good integration in iOS would also be great, and preferably without AI (or possible to switch off) and FOSS and so on.

For articles I have used Pocket, Readwise Reader (good but too expensive), omnivore (was bought) in the past and am currently searching for an alternative.

For other links I’ve used the bookmark function in the browser (impractical for me and not offline), MyMind (good but too expensive and too much AI), and currently I’m trying Obsidian. Unfortunately, the Web Clipper on iOS does not work the way I would like and the use is quite cumbersome (if anyone can point me to tutorials or has advice I’d be happy to hear it)

For several years my work flow has been to have feeds in Feedly and save articles to Pocket to read later.

With @mozilla killing Pocket, I'm wondering if @wallabag would actually serve as a replacement for both.

I'd be curious to hear any comments or experiences from folks. I'll be trying it out this week regardless, but I'd still love any tips given what my work flow has been.

I'm curious to hear what others are ! Here's my current setup:

Hardware & OS

Infrastructure & Networking

Security & Monitoring

Authentication & Identity Management

  • Authelia (Docker): Just set this up for two-factor authentication and single sign-on. Seems to be working well so far!
  • LLDAP (Docker): Lightweight LDAP server for managing authentication. Also seems to be working pretty well!

Productivity & Personal Tools

Notifications & Development Workflow

  • Notifications via:  (Docker) and Zoho's ZeptoMail ()
  • Development Environment: Mostly using VSCode connected to my server via Remote-SSH extension.

Accessibility Focus

Accessibility heavily influences my choices—I use a screen reader full-time (), so I prioritize services usable without sight (). Always open to discussing accessibility experiences or recommendations!

I've also experimented with:

  • Ollama (): Not enough RAM on my Pi.
  • Habit trackers like Beaver Habit Tracker (): Accessibility issues made it unusable for me.

I don't really have a media collection, so no Plex or Jellyfin here ()—but I'm always open to suggestions! I've gotten a bit addicted to exploring new self-hosted services!

What's your setup like? Any cool services you'd recommend I try?

ObsidianObsidian Web ClipperHighlight and capture web pages in your favorite browser. Save anything and everything with just one click.

I became disillusioned with Pocket after they discontinued social sharing of saved articles. Now I'm just after migrating to Wallabag for my article reading. It's actually remarkably great.

It has full-text search out of the box, and pretty much all the same features as Pocket premium, but doesn't trap you in Yet Another Subscription. It does imports from major bookmarking players and browser bookmarks, and also has a decent API.

I’m looking for another bookmarking/save later service. Currently playing around with Hoarder but not set on it.

What does everyone think about these ones? Which one should I pick?

Whatever one you pick, let me know why in the comments. I’d like to know pros/cons.
