After #Reagan successfully started with the dismantling of higher education for the not-well-to-do as part of #Reagonomics 2), the extremist part of #Republicans called #AmericaFirst in the 1930's and 40's, and now #MAGA are now going a step further by axing primary/2ndary ed., and the #Alignment (#Gleichschaltung) 3) of the #Education system through #MAGA-controlled state bodies.

You bring up an interesting point. I have been discussing this issue for about a year now, first on the DeadBirdSite, then here.

In a nutshell: #AmericaFirst never was punished nor disbanded. They lost in the polls. People forgot. In 1971, Big Busines joined the bandwaggon with their strategy paper. #Reagonomics carried out the strategy agains the "left", i.e. students that increasingly voted Dem.

It is an open secret that #QLoon and most of the other #US #billionaires do not want to go back to the 20th century income-tax rates of 60 to 90, topped with a wealth tax at times.

#Reagonomics kept people in poverty, busy earning a living. Educated people do not tend to vote for the #GQP, which secures low tax rates for them.

I would not phrase it this way but this week I listened to a BBC special on #Montesquieu.

He had the conviction that democracy in big states would always be corrupted by the luxuries capitalism provided (very simplified, he wrote more than 40 books).

I think that the plutocracy the US have become since #Reagonomics and the #CitizensUnitedVsFEC case are a prime example of that.

The billionaires and the Wall Street capitalists are the problem, not a "deep state"

BBCBBC Radio 4 - In Our Time, MontesquieuMelvyn Bragg and guests discuss republicanism, despotism and the separation of powers.
