AstroHyde<p>Exceedingly unimpressed with my oldish macbook pro and it's inaccessible and yet needing replacement battery. About 7 years old, and likely the last Mac I'll try to buy (A1502). Luna Lactea<p>I'm cleaning this Samsung Galaxy Book Flex (model number NP950QCG-K01US) that I was scammed for $900 for a few years ago when I REALLY needed a laptop even if it was this half broken, flimsy piece of shit. I encountered some anti repair bullshit upon opening it & I immediately bent the heat pipe. The heat pipe is almost entirely free floating inside the laptop with only the connection to the CPU & a blob of some sort of tar glue holding it in place on the opposite side. That tar glue isn't just on the opposite end of the heat pipe, it's also on the bottom instead of the top, attaching it to the bottom casing panel! It's so that when you try to pull it off it bends the heat pipe! I’ve replaced relays & thermocouples with ease over the years. Ditto if it's running Windows 11, because Windows is garbage.</p><p>"On October 14th, 2025, Windows 10 will reach the end of its support period, which means no new features or security updates. A computer without security updates is not only a problem for the user, but it can also spread malware to others.</p><p>This decision also creates major environmental problems. While the volunteers can't tackle anything too out there or too large, they make sure to stitch, staple, and suture what they can mend. </p><p>"This year, Keegan Story and the rest of the volunteer handymen and women were happy to help fix 80 per cent of the items brought to them. </p><p>" 'Electronics and appliances are one of our busier areas,' shared Story. 'Today they fixed a kid's toy DVD player, a vacuum cleaner and a few other miscellaneous electronics.' </p><p>"One of the special booths at this event was the <a href="https://kolektiva.social/tags/PinballMachine" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener noreferrer" target="_blank">#<span>PinballMachine</span></a> corner. Kids were infatuated as local Pinball Wizard/technician Darwin Gooding built one of his '70s machines and let them play with the finished product.</p><p>"Other interesting fixes were computers, mechanical clocks, clothing, and just about anything and everything else that Swift Current brought out. </p><p>"The goal of the Repair Café is to mend items that normally would go in the trash.
