CryptGoat<p>Gibt es eigentlich generelle Bedenken bzgl. <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/SSHFS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>SSHFS</span></a>? Ist ja schließlich nun seit ein paar Jahren ohne Miantainer, wird aber noch viel eingesetzt, z.B. durch <a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/KDEConnect" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>KDEConnect</span></a>. 🤔 👀 </p><p><a href="https://fedifreu.de/tags/Linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Linux</span></a></p>
menschenfreund<p>I'll skip the rant and just tell you the result: I am looking into alternatives for <a href="https://hessen.social/tags/Nextcloud" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Nextcloud</span></a>. All I really need is access to files on a homeserver from <a href="https://hessen.social/tags/GrapheneOS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>GrapheneOS</span></a>. I have not yet found an <a href="https://hessen.social/tags/sshfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sshfs</span></a> client that works for me, so now I'll try <a href="https://hessen.social/tags/DAVx5" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>DAVx5</span></a> with the <a href="https://hessen.social/tags/WebDAV" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>WebDAV</span></a> module of <a href="https://hessen.social/tags/nginx" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>nginx</span></a> ...</p>
Chris<p>Why shouldn't I use <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/sshfs" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>sshfs</span></a> for sharing my Mini-NAS drive to my network machines? Should I jump thru all the hoops and setup <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/Samba" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Samba</span></a> (yes there is a windows machine in the mix, albiet WinP11Pro so could use <a href="https://fosstodon.org/tags/NFS" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>NFS</span></a>) but I have sshfs-win <a href="https://www.winfsp.dev" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://www.</span><span class="">winfsp.dev</span><span class="invisible"></span></a> installed already 😅</p><p>Setting up NFS would be a good thing to learn though 🤔</p>

@gerowen 12 tb seems huge but when you think you need to put image and snapshots from multiple pc it quickly gets a lot smaller. for biz I like the dual nas setup with faster networking, dual port connect-x 56g cards are like 50 bucks - you can do point to point from a ws to dual nas and then have 2 ports left to sync nas quick - i think it is the ideal setup for smb sector where they need 5 nines uptime and backups of their backups essentially #mission critical data #guymager #timeshift #samba #nfs #sshfs #grsync #tech consulting praxis

#WhatsMissing: a #TUI-based #Office #Suite using modern & lean file formats:

  • A #markdown-based #Layouting & #DesktopPublishing tool that can basically handle #LaTeX and spit out #HTML as well as #PDF

  • A #TSV (because #tabs are better than #spaves and people use commas if they follow Genevan Nomenclature of Mathematics; also it should just store data, not manipulate it (or even if it should only display the results when asked to and instead store the Function for the cell I.e. =A1*B1

  • A simple and elegant #presentation tool (may just be a few presets for the #Editor)…

  • A small and nifty #FormulaEditor that allows converting regular math formulas pleasingly by converting them into LaTeX - Syntax for use in said documents.
Bonus points if it's also a scientific calculator with formula plotter supporting 2D and 3D outputs as well as export into tables.

  • A #database & #API tool that allows downloading, uploading, syncing and comparing #SQL and #NoSQL-DBs, their entries as well as queries.

  • A #notetaking tool that integrates with #git and allows both #versioning and #collaboration this way...

  • A minimalist #TUI menu that may also help setup #versioning (i.e. #git) and #collaboration (i.e. #Nextcloud) and #sync (i.e. #SFTP / #SSHFS, #SMB, Nextcloud, …) as well as other nice settings for most things.

  • A draw.io - alike #diagram editor that can handle #XML and also basic markdown as import & export language and has powerful self-layouting options.

  • A #terminal #screenshot tool alike the one The DOS compatibility card offered with #DOSCLIP ...

OF course given that (almost) all of this can be done with #neovim and a few other tools it's unlikely to get made...

#TIL (better TItested)
#ssh #sshfs option ‹-o reconnect› lets a sshfs-mount 'virtually' survive a system suspend.

That is, the underlying connection will break after a short while and open files will be closed. But the remote filesystem stays mounted and gets reconnected upon the next access to it with a little delay.

very nice …

#kdeneon #kdeconnect #bug #sshfs #linux

Oh joie.
