I was pretty impressed with how sophisticated the cocktail scene in Sao Miguel was for a tiny island in the Atlantic. I no longer remember the name or what was in most of this cocktail (green chartreuse plays some part), but pictured above is a matcha ice cube which infuses into the cocktail overtime, granting you a spectrum of flavors. And this was at a hole in the wall (a very pretty one tbf) in Ponta Delgada called Resves (pronounced rhesjvhesj). There's literally two tables and the bar, which has two stools. I found this place the night before I flew out so I didn't get a chance to return, but it's such a gem ❤️

Sete Cidades. Sao Miguel, 2025.

Sete Cidades is the crown jewel of the Azores. This is a caldera of a dormant volcano and features two lakes separated by a tiny strip of land.

This location is the whole reason I came to Portugal. Because of its unique location and topography, Sao Miguel has an extremely variable climate (to the point where weather forecasts are basically useless). As a result, this beautiful location is frequently obscured with fog and clouds. You literally have to watch a webcam and the moment you see a break in the clouds, you (and everyone else on the island) immediately books it across the island to get your shot. I was lucky to be one of the first ones on this day.

You'll notice that one of the shots is taken from a high vantage point, and that's because I'm standing on top of a ruined, abandoned, hotel (it was dilapidated and gross but so worth the vantage point!).

Anyways, the natural high I got from successfully capturing this place had me coast through the rest of the week I spent on Sao Miguel. Definitely one of my best moments in the last 5 years.
