#ForkedMeadow #California got about six inches of snow yesterday and overnight. This is the first moisture since December 24th. The overnight low was 26f and it is now 36f.
The weather forecast calls for snow showers through tomorrow night and then another potential storm coming in Friday night.
Hopefully we'll get a strong series of storms to get us back on track for the water year.
It's 11f (which was also the overnight low) at #ForkedMeadow #California with about 6 or 7 inches of fresh new snow.
The next snow is due Sunday evening.
A dusting of #snow fell overnight at #ForkedMeadow #California in advance of a more significant storm.
It got down to 28f overnight and currently is 30f. Yesterday's high was 51f.
The #Mountains are going to be getting a good blanket of snow over the next week or two.
The first real #snow of the season has finally come to #ForkedMeadow #California where an inch or so of snow fell yesterday evening. It went down to 15f overnight.
In a few days another 8 inches is expected.
I guess that means winter is here and fall is done in the central #SierraNevada #mountains where things should be snowed under until April or May.
I started following #WhatsNext4Larry on #YouTube He is currently #Hiking the #JohnMuirTrail He's may not be the next #KraigAdams but his footage is beautifully shot and fun to listen to his exuberant babbling. Worth checking him out. https://youtu.be/6vlrdtMiMrs?si=44dRE5Pv4BMzJfQL

Not to change the subject or anything…
But I did a crazy last minute drive to try to catch some lightning bolts at Mono Lake. Lots of big cells over the Sierras, then finally this afternoon a big fat one moved across the center of the lake. Perfect position! But it didn't drop a single bolt until it got to the far side and partway across the ridge. I caught a few of those bolts, but I doubt they will be anything very special.
Yesterday evening, #ForkedMeadow #California had the first #thunderstorm of the season roll through. There were about 15 or so strikes detected by our weather station and we got a few hundredths of an inch of rain.
I remember as a kid that we would get storms like that every five or six days all summer long. We haven't had that in a long time though.
The overnight low was 33f after a high of 61f. It's currently 55f.
#ForkedMeadow #California got several inches of fresh snow overnight from that late season winter storm. The total moisture yesterday between rain and snow was a bit more than 1".
The overnight low was 25f and it's currently 32f.
All of this new snow will probably be melted by the end of the day but it sure is pretty this morning.
Waiting for the winter storm to hit #ForkedMeadow #California later today. Currently it's 42f after an overnight low of 37. Tonight it's supposed to dip down to 21f. This is a significant change in the weather. It's getting pretty late in the year for a winter storm to sweep through the central #sierraNevada.
It's hard to believe that there will be snow tomorrow at #ForkedMeadow #California where it is currently 58f after a high of 59f and an overnight low of 33f. The snow banks in the forest are in full retreat, the first #morel #mushrooms of spring have come up, the frogs are singing, the grass is green and growing, and it feels like winter is behind us.
But the central #SierraNevada never really escapes from winter. It can snow any month of the year.
This morning, #ForkedMeadow #California woke up to heavy frost and an overnight (and current temp) low of 26f. There is still some snow from yesterday afternoon's snow shower hanging around and there are some large snow berms in the shadows from this past winter.
The forecast for the next week is sun so I expect we'll be largely snow-free soon.
Surprise! Winter still isn't done at #ForkedMeadow #California. A dusting of snow fell this afternoon along with 0.4" of rain today.
It's currently 34f after a high of 41f and a low of 33f.
This moisture will push out the first chance of fire season by a could more weeks. Every drop counts!
Meanwhile back at #ForkedMeadow #California it's 58f after a high of 60f and an overnight low of 31f. The snow is melting fast. I think we'll still have some in the woods and shadows on the first of May but everywhere else it's going to be gone in a hurry.
We're currently sitting at the overnight low of 28f at #ForkedMeadow #California. Quite a bit of snow has already melted but a lot still remains from this weekend's storm. The weather forecast for the foreseeable future is sunny so my assumption is the snow will start rapidly melting. In the forest there are 5 foot tall snow banks and those will stick around for a few more weeks. But spring is definitely on the way in the #SierraNevada.
#ForkedMeadow #California received about 4" of ice pellets and snow overnight although it's a bit hard to tell with certainty because the ground was warm at the start so much of the early precipitation did not stay frozen.
The overnight low was 19f and it's currently 26f.
There will be heavy thunderstorms today which would cause more snow for the meadows. It will be interesting to see just how much we get.
The weather has reached #ForkedMeadow #California. It went from about 45f down to 28f in a half hour and was accompanied by a lot of wind. Then the clouds set down with 100 foot visibility. Then the ice pellets started. And they're still going.
The calm before the storm at #ForkedMeadow #California where we're waiting for a winter storm to come in later this morning and deliver maybe an inch of rain or a foot of snow.
