Not to change the subject or anything…
But I did a crazy last minute drive to try to catch some lightning bolts at Mono Lake. Lots of big cells over the Sierras, then finally this afternoon a big fat one moved across the center of the lake. Perfect position! But it didn't drop a single bolt until it got to the far side and partway across the ridge. I caught a few of those bolts, but I doubt they will be anything very special.

Yesterday evening, #ForkedMeadow #California had the first #thunderstorm of the season roll through. There were about 15 or so strikes detected by our weather station and we got a few hundredths of an inch of rain.

I remember as a kid that we would get storms like that every five or six days all summer long. We haven't had that in a long time though.

The overnight low was 33f after a high of 61f. It's currently 55f.

It's hard to believe that there will be snow tomorrow at #ForkedMeadow #California where it is currently 58f after a high of 59f and an overnight low of 33f. The snow banks in the forest are in full retreat, the first #morel #mushrooms of spring have come up, the frogs are singing, the grass is green and growing, and it feels like winter is behind us.

But the central #SierraNevada never really escapes from winter. It can snow any month of the year.

We're currently sitting at the overnight low of 28f at #ForkedMeadow #California. Quite a bit of snow has already melted but a lot still remains from this weekend's storm. The weather forecast for the foreseeable future is sunny so my assumption is the snow will start rapidly melting. In the forest there are 5 foot tall snow banks and those will stick around for a few more weeks. But spring is definitely on the way in the #SierraNevada.

#ForkedMeadow #California received about 4" of ice pellets and snow overnight although it's a bit hard to tell with certainty because the ground was warm at the start so much of the early precipitation did not stay frozen.

The overnight low was 19f and it's currently 26f.

There will be heavy thunderstorms today which would cause more snow for the meadows. It will be interesting to see just how much we get.
