@steve_zeke if you want a great user and support experience and already like PopOS then #System76 is hard to beat.

#Linux community buying/hardware qs. Using #PopOS on refurb Dell e7470 since 2020. But the battery (easy fix) & keyboard (hard fix) are falling. WiFi radio seems subpar.
Shortlist: #system76 (lemur or pangolin), Lenovo t14 with #fedora or #ubuntu, or #kubuntu focus ir14 (less $). Uses: browsing, Nextcloud, coding, watching video. No gaming.
I’m assuming transition from pop to (k)ubuntu will be mild. Will Fedora be drastic? Anyone with 1st hand exp on these candidates or other suggestions?
@joakimfors @woutervanmaanen This year i purchased a #Framework laptop and a #System76 Meerkat to be exclusive Linux machines. Mint crashed and was unuseable on Framework. Ubuntu install was easy. The Meerkat comes with Ubuntu (w/ enhanced pw req’t). Again very smooth install.
#Libreoffice pretty good Office replacement. Trying pdf handlers. Next exploring MS Teams apps and my MS email …. #NoWindows11
Just donated to @system76 Pop!_OS after experiencing frustration with stock desktop Debian. It really highlighted how streamlined and slick the Pop!_OS install and out of box experience is.
I hope it remains that way in their future releases too.
Less friction, MUCH quicker to install and (imo) easier to use that Windows these days too.

Not as good as #framework but it is still good to have alternatives.
Be aware of proprietary binary blobs in #firmware and #bios hence I can recommend to also have a look here for other great #laptops:

Has anyone here tried out the Cosmic desktop from System 76? What are your thoughts?
Fedora is releasing a Cosmic spin, and I'm tempted.
Mending Wall v0.3.2 is now out with support for #COSMIC from #System76!
I've been wanting to try out the COSMIC alpha, so added support to Mending Wall to make it possible without risking my GNOME and KDE installs (desktop environments often interfere with each other). It woks!

#keyboards have programmable layers! I never knew that! Why doesn't anybody talk about that?
It's basically the same size and key count as the #Logitech MX Keys for Mac that I have.
I also have a Moonlander from ZSA. On which, I made a Tmux layer where I've simplified most tmux commands from 3 keypresses down to one. e.g. Ctrl+Space Down is mapped to J. It's a macro where I've “hard coded” the tmux prefix into the macro. Is this possible on the Launch
Wolffe sporting the COSMIC Alpha 6 desktop with COSMIC DROID icons by SethStorm666 (and a few I threw together for this screenshot).
I could get used to this pretty quickly. It looks like COSMIC is shaping up to be a nice middle ground between GNOME's austere rounded-corner aesthetic and KDE's option-heavy business-suit aesthetic.
Hey, #KDE devs: have a look at how #COSMIC is doing tiling and COPY IT.
Here's a very geek thing.

#Apple sucking up to the Musk/Trump regime is bugging the hell out of me. I’ve been spending a lot of time checking out #System76 machines. I had one of their early Pangolin laptops way back and it was a bit cheap Chinesium back then. But many years have passed and I hear good things about where they are at now.
@cw @pluralistic just this week…
bought a #framework 13 and #system76 meercat to be the foundation of my #windowsless #linux based computing going forward

@Jgmeadows #system76 You might want to make some exceptions for companies like System 76, which makes Linux computers, and even provides open-source hardware. It is a small company. I've visited them and they are all really nice and open minded.
