As much as I hate being old, I am so grateful that my personal time-stream lined up with Tom Baker's, and that I got to watch him in Doctor Who on Saturday nights in the 1970s.

Yes, today I can stream the same episodes, mega-restored in ultra-high-def whatever, but I'd much rather be watching at my Nan's house, sitting impatiently through the Grandstand teleprinter and Basil Brush's interminable jokes...

Tom Baker has been made a Member of the Order of the British Empire (MBE) for services to Television.

I'm sorry, but that's just not good enough. If we're still going in for all this silly nonsense with daft titles in the 21st century, then Tom should at the very least be crowned King of England... better yet, King of Planet Earth... no, King of the Universe... no, King of the Multiverse!

To mark the occasion of #DoctorWhoDay , here is a scan of a couple of an old film print (yes, this is from the pre-digital camera era, when we took pictures in Latin, & yes, I have been doing book events that long), of me with Tom Baker.

I was hosting him in the Queen's Hall for his event celebrating the publication of his autobiography. Terrific evening.

In the last week we watched #DoctorWhoSurvival - the very last serial and the end of the #ClassicEra. Over 10 years my wife and I have collected the entire series (from '63 to '89) on DVD and watched them religiously in chronological order. Finishing it was emotional!

And last night, we watched #DoctorWhoTheMovie - just to finally ice the cake and bid farewell
