Jon Seager<p>We've attracted lots of attention in the past months by shifting <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> to adopt more modern tools (sudo-rs, uutils), which I firmly believe is the right move for the long term.</p><p>That said, the reality is that many organisations struggle with migrations and find themselves in compliance traps which necessitate running older versions of <a href="https://hachyderm.io/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> for extended periods of time.</p><p>Today, Canonical announced an extension of our LTS commitment to support releases of Ubuntu with security fixes for up to 15 years.</p><p><a href="https://ubuntu.com//blog/canonical-expands-total-coverage-for-ubuntu-lts-releases-to-15-years-with-legacy-add-on" rel="nofollow noopener" translate="no" target="_blank"><span class="invisible">https://</span><span class="ellipsis">ubuntu.com//blog/canonical-exp</span><span class="invisible">ands-total-coverage-for-ubuntu-lts-releases-to-15-years-with-legacy-add-on</span></a></p>
Magical Cat<p>Over my experience with <a href="https://mastodon.online/tags/ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>ubuntu</span></a> and their snap store, I experience a problem, that when happens cause closing of all snapped applications. it happened not very often, but when my a piece of work lost due it, I basically stopped to use the snap apps, and prefer deb-based installation method.</p>
Albert Cardona<p>My desktop computer is 9 years old. Started out running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, now runs 24.04 LTS. Always flawless. Does not even have a fan, so it's quiet, unless its Nvidia graphics card is engaged, which has its own fan – but it's barely noticeable. At some point I will have to replace the SSD drive, but other than that – here is your pitch for installing linux in the "old" desktop computer that Microsoft is telling you to discard and "upgrade".</p><p>Never had an antivirus.</p><p>Just make sure to have automated backups in place, and to check that the backup process is actually working – that's all.</p><p><a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Ubuntu" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Ubuntu</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/Microsoft" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>Microsoft</span></a> <a href="https://mathstodon.xyz/tags/linux" class="mention hashtag" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">#<span>linux</span></a></p>
