@BernieDoesIt @Catvalente there is:

  • REFUSE TO RELEASE ON #iOS UNTIL THE TERMS ARE CHANGED!

As with every #Platform, #Software makes #OperatingSystems and the #OperatingSystem makes #Hardware.

  • This worked with #WindowsPhone and #UWP: everyone refused to build #Apps for it and thus it died pretty quickly.

And if you want to say that's not an option, take a look at #AltStore which automates all the necessary work to perpetually #sideload any #App on iOS in a noob-friendly way.

Remember: "Everyone else does it" never was and never will be a valid excuse for any shit system!

  • Also you could just refuse to offer the sales on Apple's platform and add any "#Premium Features" post-launch with your own payment & licensing infrastructure. If you're big enough or small enough you may get away with it. #NotLegalAdvice

Otherwise band together with other #developers and coordinate.

And if you allow Apple to exploit you harder than #Valve, then you normalize that shit!

Tom Warren's tweet about the Windows Phone made me think about how there was so many cool stuff on it. I remember something called "lenses": you opened the standard camera app and then you could switch to another app's capture interface with just a swipe, without changing apps at all. It was something ahead of time and that neither Apple or Google added to their OSes.

I hate sounding like the old guy in the room when I say things like "phone design used to be more fun". I mean, I AM the old guy in the room, but I hate SOUNDING like the old guy complaining about new tech.

Frosted gradients. Laser etched glossy. Bold primary color polycarb. Metal and leather. Different form factors and features... Sigh...

We didn't know how good we had it...

I want a tv show where its 2023 but #windowsphone , #webos (Palm Pre-style), and #blackberry won the smartphone wars, so all the cast use them and use jargon none of us are familiar with ("Oh let me just switch to that card on my Pre real quick to check that..."). I don't care about the topic or point of the show, I just want that to happen. Also all PCs in the shows run #beos (not #haikuos , the original BeOS, either r4.5 or 5 is acceptable).

#Microsoft giving up on #WindowsPhone was absolutely a mistake. It was a good OS, and yeah they made some big fumbles like cutting off recent devices with major OS upgrades.

They also struggled to jumpstart their app economy. I know they tried offering a few iOS devs a sum to port their apps. But from a few I talked to, it was *insultingly* low. MS isn't exactly hurting for cash, so this strikes me as a significant mistake.

What a bummer. Windows Phone was good.
