One of the most innocuous features enabled on millions of iPhones is also one of the most dangerous for those seeking to protect their privacy in public. Apple's AirDrop protocol uses trivially bypassed security measures that authorities like the Chinese government have openly bragged about cracking to identify users since at least 2022.
You should assume that any device with AirDrop enabled is constantly broadcasting your name, email address, and phone number to everyone around you, even if you have it set to "Contacts Only." Apple has known about this flaw since 2019 and has not issued any fix.

Übrigens: Mit Snapdrop gibt es sowas wie eine unabhängige Web-basierte Alternative für AirDrop.
Das funktioniert dann natürlich auch mit dem Android Telefon, mit dem Linux Laptop und jedem anderen halbwegs aktuellen Gerät mit Webbrowser.
Die Dateien werden Peer-to-peer im lokalen Netzwerk übertragen. Der Snapdrop-Server wird nur für das Signalling genutzt. Wer will, kann den Signalling-Server auch selbst hosten.
Kann man sich einprägen. Wer weiß, wann man mal eben eine Datei von einem Gerät auf's andere schubsen muss.

I’m so used to my workflow on #Linux and #KDEPlasma that it’s hurting my productivity when using #macOS on the go. Unfortunately, while #KDE often ships a lot of their apps to #Windows, it seems to be hardly the case for Macs (even when I think, technically, it should be easier). I understand it’s probably not possible for certain apps like #Dolphin (which I miss the most, fuck Finder honestly), but please give me the other (possibly) simpler apps at least like #Okular, #Gwenview, or even utility apps like #KDiskMark. The only KDE apps I have atm on macOS are #Kdenlive, which I’m super glad about bcos I very much prefer it over #FinalCutPro, and also #KDEConnect (which I honestly much prefer over #AirDrop, as long as the devices are on the same network).
