To 1986 for #ThrowbackThursday today. This was on our first family holiday abroad. The Hotel Amapola, #Alcudia, #Mallorca. The hotel had an even split of German and English families and the entertainment at night was the sort that didn't require too much translating. A #drag act one night saw guests whirled around and a drag strip act (tiny thong left on) that likely would make some families twitchy these days. Everyone seemed to enjoyed it, though.

A central space is surrounded by chairs and tables, although they don't go back too far until they reach the far wall. To the right is a raised seating area surrounded by thick, square pillars, and some small dark railings. Over the railings and around the pillars people are leaning forward to see what's going on in the middle of the venue and all the people in seats are looking and laughing at the spectacle. The main view is of an entertainer who has brought a hotel guest onto the middle of the floor and is in the presence of holding on and swinging the man around. The man is dressed casually in jeans and a white shirt, but the entertainer - another man - is in drag, wearing a large blonde wig and a red dress with gold trim that barely reaches the bottom of his buttocks.

For #ThrowbackThursday here's the first foreign holiday we ever took, at the Hotel Amapola, Alcudia, Mallorca in about 1986. My mum, me, and my younger brother there. My brother inherited the Spanish gene from my dad's side of the family, hence his easy tan. I got the Irish gene from my mum, hence the bright red, sunburnt nose. I still have to be so careful with that nose in the sun.

On the right is a younger boy with light blue shirt and union flag shorts. He's tanned, is drinking from a straw from a glass, has one hand raised, and has an ace of spades playing card behind his ear. On the table are more glasses of drinks, playing cards, and some camera equipment.

#ThrowbackThursday to our very first foreign #holiday as a family. This was, I believe, 1986, and the #hotel we stayed at was in #Alcudia on #Mallorca. Yes, that scrawny teenage boy trying to impress a girl (not in view) with his Lilo-surfing (an important skill, important for all boys to know) is me. I recall the hotel was about 50/50 English and German tourists, and we enjoyed it so much we returned to the same hotel two years later.

The pool is obviously part of a hotel complex although there are no buildings visible, just a line of bushes, plants, and trees at the back of the pool, in front of which, on loungers and plastic white chairs on paving slabs surrounding the pool. are lots of families. It's very sunny so almost everyone is down to their swimming costumes. One person is carrying at the end of the pool to the right, but the main focus is near the front of the pool where a thin, teenage boy with dark hair and a pair of dark swimming trunks is surfing on a lilo on the pool's surface. He is facing just away from show with his right arm in front and his left arm out to the side for balance. At the pool's edge, in the water, and closer to view, is the bag of another boy's dark-haired head looking around at the surfer.
